Not sure...unless that made him reconsider?
I think that after the Le Arse game he was off.
I think that Eddie has been very vocal internally about keeping him but the board have been non-comittal, so he obviously has looked and see whats out there.
Eddie may have now got his way and new contract is on the table so it suddenly comes back to him.
I don't really know anymore - this has taken a somewhat bizare turn.
If he does stay then I would guess that a doubt/problem has arisen with signing a replacement???
Kelleher I think wants a move for 1st team games with Maramadashvili in at the dippers.for probably the same price as Trafford. I think he is solid
Dub?s wants to play.
What?s gonna happen in a couple of weeks when Pope is fit?
Eddie has shown a clear preference for Pope over Dub?s for years now.
We gonna throw a lot of money at Dubs to try and convince him to stay, still need another keeper for a long term no 1, and then have 5 or 6 keepers on the books.
I just think this is a messy future situation in the making
I wonder if he's just staying until the Summer, though? That would suit everyone more or less.
That suits us a lot more than it suits Dubs.
He wants to play football
He has a very lucrative deal on the table to go to Saudi
Yeah, we could say we?re not selling and keep him? but what happens when Pope is fit?
What happens to his wages? We offering him some sort of incentive to stay then leave in 6 months with potentially no contract for a 36 year old keeper?
Alternatively, it would be a multiple year contract for improved wages and then we have the Pope ot not, and still have the question of an improvement on Pope? with Vlachodimas still here.
Over the last few years Howe has consistently picked Pope over Dub?s? I get that keepers hang on to their spot more, but years? Pope has made mistakes and never been dropped for them to give Dubs a chance? so how is that going to change.
I?d rather have Dubs over Pope if I?m honest, but with age and contract situation I?m just confused how this will out to keep people happy and benefit the club without adding another contract to the wage bill that returns little (unless we sold Pope)
First - I dont know how it was supposed to work with Dubs still having 6 months left on his contract and still no fee for NUFC?
My guess that the club was happy to accept 0 fee for him to get his wage off the bill for 6 months, but Pope injury and Dubs performance made them reconsider.
Now I think Dubs feels a bit pissed of with whole situation, although deep down he is happy to play on.
The way it could be dealt with for all parties is that Dubs now signs a lucrative contract with SA club (given PIF connections) and promised at least run out in both cups (what he fully deserves)
Ideal situation would be to sell him to the Saudis for a reasonable fee, with him getting the contact he wants then this club has him on loan back for 6 months.
The slight problem there, Pat, is that I think that could work if he was massively sought after and the buying club were basically putting a 'reserved' sign on him but we'd besically be saying 'you can have him in the Summer for nowt...or...you can buy him now for ?8 million but still not have him until the Summer.'
Not sure they'd go for that. :D
