Slot went up in my estimations, Klopp would never had admitted we were the better team. Liverpool will be champions after a great season but today belongs to us and this is just the start. HWTL
Aye - pleased with how Slot spoke.
As said, Klopp would have never done that.
Nice to see another PL manager in the Pep and Eddie mould (there arent enough of them).
Just watched the match again. Three things stood out:
- our set piece plays, especially corners, were excellent.
- at the start of the second half, Liverpool pressurized us. We didnt sit back but kept pressing. In other games we would have and lost. Big lesson there.
- As we all know Slot put (wee man) McAllister to mark BDB at the corners. I can only think that Slot didnt rate BDB in the air as a goal threat. (That worked out well!! 😆 )
The BDB and McAllister mismatch apperently comes from how LiVARpool zonally mark, rather than man to man.
Eddie said they'd identified this and deliberately stuck BDB in that position and had practise headers all week from corners to him in those positions.
A great manager!!!
Our last Wembley appearance we weren?t ourselves, we didn?t play our game and adapted to the occasion and lost because of it.
This time: Eddie has learned from his mistakes. Stuck to our natural pressing game, put Liverpool under constant pressure, and identified their weakness.
If we?d sat back we?d have been pummelled, we didn?t play our what we?re good at, pressed and adapted our set piece plays to take advantage of their set up!
my only real gripe is this rubbish coming out of the media about their right hand side being a weakness because they had a couple of players out?
Lucky for them our left hand side was our weakness because we had a couple of players out. No exuse for the rest of the team that didn?t up 😆
They still had Salah our stand in LB had to contend with. Our right footed player had to ping a cross in in his weaker foot for Murphy to knock down to Isak.
But? a lot of credit to Slot for not using that as an excuse, we were the better team and he admitted it? it?s just the press finding an excuse for the Newcastle win as they don?t want to accept we deserved it.
I dont think you can underestimate the importance of the WHU performance/result. When we lost the last final we were on a very poor run of form and couldnt lift our game for the final.
We didnt play badly against Brighton and the game couldve gone either way but a loss there and then a poor or inconsistent performance at West Ham couldve got into the players heads. As it happens it was a strong, battling performance at the London Stadium and we raised our game spectacularly for Wembley. I hope this is the start of a strong run to the end of the season (and I hope Big Joe and Bruno?s performances for Brazil last night were just a matter of after party and travel fatigue!!). One good thing is Bruno was carded and so is suspended for Tuesdays game against Argentina.
Yeah we're in a different head space in general from being the plucky upstarts of 2 seasons ago.
This year we've matured mentally. Obviously still some teething troubles and growing pains as we're lost matches at home to clubs we should be beating but next season we'll no doubt put them to bed as Eddie & the squad learn from their mistakes.
Bruno scoring the winner at WHU was significant for sure.
Regardless of the travel this group of players is going to be fired up and hungry to put teams to the sword in the last 10 games.
I know the fans are gonna rip the roof off SJP when Brentford Rock up!
GAME ON!
