As long as he want to build a football team and not an abattoir.

Not an easy decision. If he has pittance to spend and does not get the club into the play offs then his career could go backwards. On the other hand a safe job at Spurs and Champions League. Many would say to stay put or take a job with a team heavily backed for promotion.

Same with players - they most likely would choose Birmingham or Wrexham over us. That?s life.

I don?t think Mason will succeed or even can succeed

He is a coach used to the best technical players and not mid table ageing championship players who lack desire .
His game pholosophy will be premiership stuff. An example ?

Playing out from the back at this level with this squad won?t work ? teams get set up against us as we dither our defenders aren?t good enough to make a pass or keep possession unless they go back or sideways and closing them down is a recipe for mistakes

Mason won?t work because hew has premiership mindset ? the guardiola way- but he does not have the squad nor the transfer budget to change it

What about a reall moneyball approach?

Find a coach who believes in attack ? getting defenders to get it forward quickly- try to create chaos in the opposition box.
Getting fast wingers to make crosses getting strikers to shoot or head or compete and hope for the breaks.

So I think we should look at the best manager in the lower divisions ? who knows hidden gems at that level- they?ll all want to play for us ? not like ageing or not good enough premiership players. Give our youngsters a chance. Get a team that attacks and excites .Give our youngsters a chance look at the success of our Academy selloffs

But we won?t ? the risk of failure for the board is too great so it will be a Mason type who knows nothing about championship realities and who has only dealt with technically gifted players.

It won?t and it can?t work .

If Nestor is the guy with the stats get him looking at the numbers of the best player in every position from lower leagues or less well paid foreign leagues .

Hell ?..we could ask Heggem who he rates in his previous league .

We are going down a classic management consultancy route choosing someone who on paper won?t get you fired but is completely out of touch with our reality.

I say again Mason or another premier league coach won?t work ? he does not have the experience of the championship and he will not have a way to play that gets us to the playoffs

At least my suggestion would make for exciting times-

I have to admit I know absolutely nothing about Ryan Mason as a footballer or a coach so I would be wrong to say he will work or not work.
I still think a manager in the mould of Corberan who doesn't give the players an inch would be the best approach or they're gonna ease off like they did last season. Disappointing to finish so far down the division so probably not a lot of confidence from last season to take forward.

I agree with Harsh Realities. A manager with no management experience, no experience of the Championship doesn't sound very promising to me.

All managers are previously assistants and have to start somewhere. Most of the talented and connected assistants start around our level, mid table championship, like Lampard.

Kompany, McKenna, Arteta, Maresca etc. prove it can work. Scott Parker got promoted first season after being an assistant season before.

I would say there are as many examples of an assistant being successful as there are lower league managers making the step up.

I’m resigned to the fact that the appointment will be made to the candidate who best fulfilled our owner’s algorithm. If he is being interviewed, then he has met the main criteria and financial and contract details are the only items for discussion.
Whilst preferring a different style of appointment, I am happy for the owners to press on with their beliefs …. and hope. Maybe this is the future….

I completely agree with you Matt. Getting off to a decent start will help. I would rather have an hungry young coach on the up rather than a dinosaur.
