Carrick's got a 46% win ratio and led Middlesbrough to one play-off and three top half finishes, but they've sacked him for failing to get them to the Premier League after three seasons. I think that maybe says more about Middlesbrough's overblown expectations than Carrick's abilities as a coach. Neil Warnock had to perform one of his late season rescue acts to save Boro from the drop to League One about five years ago but now they think consistent top half finishes in the notoriously tough Championship are beneath them. Delusions of grandeur perhaps?
