The online petition is just populism in action for me. It’s just a knee jerk reaction from those who can’t or don’t want to think through the consequences.
My position is simple...I condemn both her actions and the organisation she joined but although I doubt anyone on here did something as foolish or objectionable at the age of fifteen I suspect there are many, including me, who wouldn’t want to be judged forever on their misguided teenage actions.
More importantly perhaps...we as a country go out of our way to develope relationships with other countries where villains, terrorists, thiefs and murderers are hunted down and returned to the UK to face trial. We can’t, imo, pick and choose just because it is currently popular to do so.
This teenage girl has behaved abominably in my opinion. I’m not being forgiving, I recognise that she needs to face the consequences but we as a country run the risk of becoming ever more isolated and alienated if we don’t accept our international responsibilities.
