There is a way out of this, but it involves most of the world being vaccinated. Until the West puts as much effort into getting vaccines to "third world" countries as it does its own citizens, we're always going to be prey to new variants.
Omicron could be a blessing as it appears to not be so devastating on the lungs as previous variants. Even so, I will very happily get my second booster in the next few weeks here in Israel - because I trust the science.
I'm currently reading the book "A Shot to Save the World: The Inside Story of the Life-Or-Death Race for a Covid-19 Vaccine," and in my eyes the vaccine is a remarkable success story. Of course, I won't be saying that in 10 years' time when the zombie hordes are chasing me around a still-undeveloped Broad Marsh.
And going back to the football, I hope a COVID passport is introduced for games. There's been one in Israel since the spring, and I wouldn't be choosing to go to the cinema, for example, without such a scheme in place. It's called "the greater good" - something libertarians don't seem to care for.
