The bakery wis a kick in the airse fae Pittodrie .... yet Ah dinna think they ever supplied the half time scoffs! If correct, damn shame ... they provided oor school 'play-piece' van .... took proper mannies tae fight tae the front o' the 'queue' .... riskin' a jimmy-slap roon the lug fae folk behind ye if ye didna move forward quick enough, and a slap on the lug fae the van mannie for pushin in aboot! - Proper bakery van mannies!

And. fan ye got oot o' there wi a rowie/bradie .... there wis the non queuein 'vultures' fa, like proper vultures would form a circle roon the back o' the bradie van .... an' fa would pinch as much as their hands could swiftly grab as ye were tryin tae keep yer feet upon expulsion fae the 'rammy' ... leavin ye wi' as much as ye could hide/hud ontae. - NAE proper mannies! .... mair fkn proper hunnish!

Best plan wis tae buy an extra rowie an' fling it in the air as soon as ye got oot ... an' scram - wi yer scran!

Was the the baker on East Merkland Road?

I used to bide in number 16, the smell of the rowies coming out of the oven at 2.00am used to waken me up.

Served my time their Neeps. We did do the pies for Pittodrie, before my time in the 80s and again around the early 90s, when they started to put them in the foil cases. A lot of the players were partial to a pie and a rowie too, especially Jim Bett.

Your comment about the Baker vans and a skelp in the lug fae Jimmy, who probably would have been Jim Baxter (nae the alkie one that played for Rangers), but who didn't think twice about skelping my lug if something wasn't done for him on time and meant his van was late, he took nae shyte from anyone, least of all a young apprentice. Willie Falconers Da was another driver during my time their too.
