This time last year it was me having to congratulate you lot, after losing twice to the mighty Toon we eventually qualified for europe Lge proper, ( not like the Spuds conference)B)
so don't be so down after the first game its a long season and i'm sure you'll have better days than this 1!
remains for me to say..
Take care and be lucky now
John...
Have to say... I thought that was an enjoyable watch. We were threatening for a large portion of the game, but it became clear when we conceded the third that there was little we could do to change the game. Our best available 11 started, and I'm not sure Willock would have helped in this game since the issues were defensive. We saw some great link up play between St Max and Wilson for the first one, great finish from Murphy for the second, and I don't think it was even close to a penalty for them - total bull**** decision in my opinion - so lots to be happy about. I'm happy to lose games where we create enough chances to have won the game. Then it just comes down to the players on the day, and that's the lottery for you.*
*Unless you have enough money to buy Grealish for £100m and Kane for (let's say) £150m, and it gets to you via a fraudulent method of having your owner hand out cash to your sponsors so they can afford the over-inflated deals they've agreed with you. But we obviously can't 'prove' that, as Pep requests. Except for all the evidence, I mean. We just can't prove it within the timeframe for the statute of limitations for the offence since it takes UEFA and the PL literally YEARS to investigate things when it comes to the 'big 6'. And yet, conversely, their mere suspicions can stop a takeover if you're Newcastle. Weird world of football.
The penalty definitely should’ve been overturned but even before then, we’d conceded a lead twice. Didn’t have much luck with a couple of bounces and goalmouth follow ups that didn’t go our way (e.g. the 4th goal start of the counter attack). Heads went down after then and we looked lost.
On the upside I had Antonio and Benrahma in my dream team.
And captained Fernandes.
50k plus in attendance at that today.
Not surprising after the lifting of covid restrictions. I’m hoping more people will come to their senses soon.

I thought I’d posted that before I went out after the game but it looked like I hadn’t on the iPad when I got back - must’ve hit a back arrow without realising so reposted in error - not intending to keep making the same point until I get a response XD
