For the right player its sometimes what a club needs Hope Shinnie has the desired effect. Im of an age I remember King Joey exit from Everton. We were involved in a bidding war wi Hibies the old EE used to have a blank space down the side of the broadsheet it was used for "stop press" I followed the Joey saga on that tension filled it was. Sadly Hibs outbid us was heartbreaking.
I recall The King coming back, arrived as part of the Ally MacLeod revolution.
The Hibs stuff.... Joe, to this day, detests Hibs.
I was at some gig where he was holding court, and the victim of his tales was Tom Hart, chairman at Easter Road with whom Joe battled. The only gag I can remember was “Hart’s daughter came home one night and confessed, ‘Dad, I’m pregnant’. “Are you sure it’s yours?’”
Eoin Jess’s return was also a great success. But for his heroics, I think we might have been relegated. Imagine if he’d been about 5 years older, playing with the 84 squad????
I recall that Scott Booth was also a class above when he returned, in the dark days. Here's hoping this works out - welcome back, Shinniesta min.
I still f*cking hate that moose Bunter Murdoch
Possibly, but he was also our best player by a fair margin in his one season back with us and finished top scorer in what was a fairly depressing season. 8 goals in 20 league games was a decent return considering how Shyte we were.
You could see playing abroad had improved him as a player, but I do wonder playing in that team was the reason he retired.
