Agree, nothing but positives from today for me because a weakened team totally dominated for 85 minutes. As gumpy said, a second goal would have spared us those last few nervous minutes! Full credit to Stuart Maynard, he played all of our attacking options from the start and we deserved to win by more than the single goal.
The only concerns I have surround the fact that we were profligate in front of goal and could have been three up after 15. Palmer frustrates me, he slows down the game when we need momentum and delays a pass, far too long. Generally and I know where not 'Citeh' but we have to have more urgency and move the ball much quicker but, all that being said, job done, weakened team and all, we move on.
Harrogate look good for the drop to me, I can't recall much less of a test over the last, two seasons.
Bar a couple of odd decisions late on, and blowing up about three seconds before 45 minutes in the first half, that’s the best I’ve ever seen Darren Drysdale referee a Notts game.
There wasn’t a lot to do, but he refereed that excellently today. He always comes across as a bit big time, making very obviously overt gestures, a la Clattenburg, but thought that really controlled the game well.
In particular, Martin and their RB tussled for a ball that was shepherded out of play, and DD made both aware they’d handled that passage of play well.
He booked there (I think) Number 10 for mouthing off quickly, without calling him over, and made a gesture with his hand that showed everyone what had gone off.
He also diffused a potential issue with a Harrogate sub who was annoyed at a late Notts free kick on the DP side. The sun seemingly asked what the foul was for and DD pulled on his own shirt to show what had gone off.
Refereeing is hard, and they get lots of stick and I worry when we get Drysdale because he’s generally poor. But fair play today, he was excellent.
