Convincing win today
Well done Notts. Pleased that they first put to bed any notion Kent had of winning the game, due to some fine batting, and then wrapped up an easier than expected victory, with a fantastic bowling display. We should be safe from relegation now.
Good to see the club is also going through a much needed transition from relying on the old guard too much, to having belief in the younger players, with some good looking signings too. Lets hope we get to see a fair bit of Tongue next season, (ooh err missus).
I think Mullaney was thinking about the Middle*** game where we got burnt for being to generous with our declaration. Kent were very poor though.
Fair point EP unless the opponent you are risking the win/loss, is in direct competition with you for league positioning. We certainly couldn't afford to lose to Kent today, and a draw against Middles*x earlier in the season would have seen us safe earlier, I think.
A strange game, but a great result. It looked a perfect batting pitch when we reached 171/1 and a 300+ score should have been the target. Instead we collapsed to 237 all out. An admittedly weak Ess ex side were far worse, and only managed a pathetic 69 in reply.
Is it possible for a 69 to be pathetic, asking for a friend ;D
Talking of pathetic, another spectacular bottle job from Notts in the 50 over cup today. We only needed 20 runs from 4 overs with five wickets in hand. Even from the last over we only needed a single from each ball to win, but managed to score just two runs and lose 3 wickets. Pathetic.
It was indeed a very disappointing defeat, but you could sense it would never be easy if James or Montgomery got out which they did. It was not so much having the five wickets left but we had struggled all innings to get the run rate down below six, so as new men came in it was always going to be difficult. It would have been all over if Hutton had connected properly with the third ball of the last over, maybe he should have gambled with the first ball of the last over., thus giving five balls to get the six required. On the plus side it was good to see Lyndon James put good runs on the board again.
