Bellytubby that reverse independence/union scenario is genius!

I've come a bit late to this thread - its got some good stuff in it.

I'm a YES man from the heart. Forget all the financial and other arguments. If we have responsibility for our own actions we'll be a better country for it.

My worry, and its a big one, is that the NO's will win the vote and it'll be Big Eck's fault. How so?

Well IMO Salmond has made a big error of judgement. By putting out his white paper wishlist and continually concentrating on what SNP policy would be if they were in government in an Independent Scotland rather than the pros and cons of Independence per se. This effectively reduces the target audience for voting YES, to those who want independence AND support SNP policies. But there must be plenty of non SNP voters (I've voted between Labour, SNP, Green and Lib Dem in the past) who would also support independence, but not the policies Salmond keeps suggesting he would put in place, if we become Inde

excellent post. I am yes, but do not agree with some of Salmonds proposals. This could be sorted out during the 18 month negotiating period.

There are too many people with this brainless mindset that think ... oh i dont like salmond so im voting NO. Duh, it aint about Salmond!!

As I've said above I'm a YES but with some substantial concners about Salmond.

here's my take on his reluctance to give a plan B.

1. Salmond wanted the option for Devo Max on the ballot paper because he knew he could win that one. He's worried (with good reason) that it'll be a lot harder to win full Indy.

2. Salmond has looked at the polls early doors and has reasoned that the odds are against the Scots voting for full Indy - too much inertia.

3. Salmond has realised that Scottish independence with a currency union (sort of Independence lite) is kind of similar to Devo Max so has thrown his weight behind that - EVEN THOUGH its not on the ballot paper and the key issue of currency relates to policy post Indy rather than Indy itself.

So now those of us who want full independence and fiscal autonomy are pissed off with him for dodging about the issue, but clearly still going to vote for it. Those who dont want Independence see him as confused and indecisive. And those who are undec

The SNP will be the ones in power so while the vote is about Scotland's future the SNP will be the ones who govern us.

Wouldn't exactly say they are doing a cracking job for D&G just now so can hardly see this changing with independence.


Just like in Westminster, all they care about is their own which in our case will be the central belt.


What you have to think about is will YOU be better off with a YES vote, not Scotland.

Depending on if the majority of the electorate IN SCOTLAND vote for them or not.

That's the difference.

Personally I am amazed at how many people are willing to stake their futures and that of their families on a stack of unanswered issues that are all significant in their own right but cumulatively don't bear thinking about.

An unequivocal NO from me and I just hope that common sense prevails.
