O/T panic buying

I kinda get why people stock pile though there's absolutely no need for it.
There's a lot of scare mongering from the media plus seeing the rest of the world reports has got people worried.
I'm one of those glass half full type of blokes and very little worries me so I will go shopping on my usual day.
There's myself. My daughter and sister who's doing the shopping for 5 house holds. Inc 2 with over 80s in them.
We all make a weekly list of what we need. If there's sumat not in our local shop the items we can't get are sent via text to the others to check when they go shopping.. if it's not in any we leave it to next week's list. Not advisable like some running around different shops to get it. Plus tbh I can't be ar*ed
Keep safe everyone there's plenty for everyone and don't worry silly. It will get better.

Went to Tesco at Wath yesterday, I wanted some whiskey, when I got to the alcohol,wines & spirits section, all cases of larger / beer had gone, just bottles of real ale, on the spirits section it seemed everyone had been after whiskey, there was only 6 bottles left.
Most of the veg had been wiped out, cereal shelves, butter / lard were empty, but one thing I not could believe is that people had cleared the dog / cat food section, I managed to get a uncut loaf just come out of the oven, when i got to the cash out there was a woman with a load of boxes of cat food, the cashier told her only 3 allowed per person.

It looks like the supermarket are prioritising the space on there lorry's. Guess there's only so much room.
Can you use whiskey as hand sanitizer?

No chicken anywhere yesterday.

No packaged bread either

They are literally fighting over toilet paper in London now.

Craft distilleries here are making it and giving away free with a purchase of a bottle of vodka/gin/whiskey or selling it for $5 a bottle with the money going to charity.

I would only try after I have supped it, then gone through the system.

One good piece of news on this front. Shops here, Costco and a few others, are refusing to take return of items that have been 'panic' bought, especially Toilet Rolls, Hand Sanitizer, Rice....etc. Good decision, everywhere should extend it to everything for the foreseeable future, you don't know where it's been when it left the shop.

Card payments might not work soon which should stop the panic buying
A friend,s Sister is a BT Engineer and apparently they are struggling to cover all of their technological tasks whilst working at home and the cracks are appearing
I wouldnt be surprised if the banks have IT problems in due course
My advice would be to have a wad of cash but at least there will be food on the shelves

Johnson is been meeting with the supermarkets about this today, as closing the restaurants will increase demand even further.

Supermarkets are also recruiting 20,000 people to cover the extra demand.
