The performance gives us hope for the future games, unless we slip back into Coventry/Watford mode. Crookes was knackered when he went thro, he usually gets away from players but decided to shoot before he got caught, it was a shot of a tired man, maybe should have looked up and played Ladapo?? in. When Smith went off that was the turning point for us to get pushed back as we couldn't get the ball and move forwards, when we did it just come straight back.
The goal came from an almighty ruck of players going for the same shi8te centre and the ball breaks for their player and bingo. Maybe the Ref should have blown when we defended the 1st cross and not let the 2nd phase happen, it was 7.38 on my screen when it went in.
In post match round up PW said he took Wiles off cos he had a cold and was on empty. Smith and Vass(who) were also tired and had to save something for Saturday, very strange comment when were defending like hell for a point. Apart from running about closing people down, i don't see why Vass should start again. He's why out of his depth in this league.
Bad ending but overall we did ok last night, we deserved something from the game.
As usual tactics, team selections and subs were questionable but to be fair what do we expect of our manager?
Four years ago he was just a fitness coach thrown into the deep end of management, he's going to make mistakes and he will hopefully learn from them.
Question is if his personal development is at the expense of relegation then will he survive?
Its took me nearly a day to post because I was so gutted after last night. No point everyone getting at each other because basically there's some element of truth in most of the comments. I am not a genius at tactics but can clearly put my finger on why we lost. We did not score enough goals. The performance was very good but its at the cutting edge that will also dictate results. Until we either a) take our chances, or b} buy a proven Championship striker we will come away feeling gutted more often than not.
I still think that Freddy will get us goals but Smith is in the team for his work rate. Not convinced at all by Vassell and Hirst is still learning. Only my opinion mind you, but promotion teams usually have the ability to win from losing positions and vice versa. The ominous truth is that the Millers have lost 14 points so far from winning positions and are 4 points worse off from 19 games than in 2018/19. Its not unredeemable and I still think this squad is stronger than that one, but we need to punish teams when we are on top.
I don't think it's a simple as saying we shouldn't have take this player off, kept another player on and why did we change it.
Players might be injured or tiring. They brought some fresh legs on and we had to counter that. Who's to say that their subs wouldn't have breezed past our lads anyway if they had been kept on and who had put in a monumental effort. They might, they might not.
Watching from a small TV screen won't show us what PW and his backroom staff are seeing and hearing from his players.
The biggest disappointment was not establishing a two goal lead rather than criticising the Manager yet again. Easy to do from an armchair when we don't know all the facts
