Possibly, it certainly depends if he can get an Injury free squad soon.
That's just why this thread should be retitled "do you like Maynard or not" because it's more to do with personality than ability, for what it's worth I have always had concerns about him but firmly believe that it would be unfair to sack him when we are in with a shout despite our shocking injury list, give him this season & then assess it is where I am.COYP
I always like your posts UTM.
Under SM I notice that we got 18 points from 19 games last season.
28 points from 18 games this season. So we do seem to be moving in the right direction.
Anyway, many on here (including me) have suggested that you are often selective in the stats you put out.
So for me ( and just as a bit of fun ) are you able to re-jig the above table to show all those managers' last 18 games at Tier 4 please.
Not without patching the code that generates these lists (which is already a patched up spaghetti nightmare) and you're then comparing against almost all managers at their very worst before they got sacked or quit (Cotterill and Sirrel are about the only two I can think of who left on a high). What will Maynard's final 18 game PPG be before he leaves? We won't know until it happens.
You could take the last 5 games of last season and the first six of the current one to make Maynard look like a genius, but the fairest as well as least selective way to do it, once they've overseen half a season's worth of games, is to compare everybody's results in total at the same level. The more games they've managed, the more the average settles down. When they first arrive, then it makes more sense to compare by first x number of games.
Thanks for considering it. You don't want to risk messing everything up.
I thought, that as some seem to want him gone now, we could compare his games this season to a similar number of matches for other managers at the end of their tenure. I think last season was a rather unusual set of circumstances for him to walk into.
Having a full pre season is ***** for any manager or head coach. It provides a clean slate, a more accurate reflection and removes excuses that are valid when coming in mid season.
That is just one of the reasons why I am more concerned with his statistics such as points per game this season rather than overall
If Crowley has 'spit dummy', how much of that might be down to Maynard?
I realise we'll never know the answer but I think it's the inevitable direction that post Crowley comment will travel if he does go without kicking another ball for us.
