OT Trump prematurely ejaculates

I'm still flabbergasted that Trump actually INCREASED his vote! I mean those millions cannot all be unable to differentiate between facts and lies? They can't all believe the ****e spouted by Trump? They can't all think, no matter how disillusioned one is with politics that Trump's methodology is somehow valid?

And then we have the large proportion of the republican party who know that Biden has won, with both the popular vote and the electoral college, yet still haven't said that publicly and appear to be backing Trump and the damage he is doing to democracy!

Yes I understand that power corrupts and many times people don't both about how they get it, but supporting a direct challenge to trust in democracy in the "land of the free"? How cynical is that?

The problem with reading or watching anything Trump is that the media never give their audience a sniff of objectivity. This has been true of Access Hollywood, the Russia Hoax, controversial tweets, impeachments for phone calls, etc. I doubt anyone on here can truthfully say they once turned on the TV to find Trump being given positive coverage for something he's said or done. All speeches, film clips are edited to conform to the anti-Trump narrative. Most of his supporters are portrayed as inarticulate hillbillies and Hell's Angels.

Therefore we shouldn't expect to see or hear anything other than videos slanted in such a way as to undermine Giuliani's claims about shenanigans regarding voting irregularities. Maybe he's wrong or he's being deceiptful. Indeed he strikes me as beiing untrustworthy. But it's a case of the boy who cried wolf. The media may have miscronstrued or misinterpreted him to suit their own ends.

What we can know for certain is that Biden was involved in the Ukranian affair. There is footage of him boasting that he'd withold aid unless the Ukranian president ended an investigation into in Hunter Biden's dubious activities. In Joe Biden's words: 'If the prosecutors not fired, you're not getting the money. Son of a bitch, he got fired.'

It's not difficult to speculate on how the media would have reacted if Donald Trump and Donald Trump junior had acted in such a way. The story certainly wouldn't have beenn ignored even if there wasn't much mileage in it. It's just one example of the way the media manipulated the election result.

Don't treat those voting booth clips as though they're true. Maybe they are and maybe they aren't.

Many of Trump’s supporters are ‘inarticulate hillbillies’. There are some who vote for him as a way of objecting to the loss of jobs to countries such as Mexico and China, but in general he appeals to the bigots, the white suprematists, the gun lobby and those amongst the elderly who, not unlike many UKIP supporters, seek a return to their, possibly imaginary, halcyon days.

It’s difficult to paint a favourable portrait of a man who has said what he’s said about Mexicans, Muslims, grabbing women by their p*****s, injecting disinfectant and now appears to be the ultimate bad loser.

But not 70 million rA! I mean in Florida his support from Latino's increased! Its too easy to dismiss the Trump support as unsophisticated people, yes many are, but there is also a big base of professional folks who voted for him.

Apparently many of the older generation didn't vote for Trump this time , his handling of Covid-19 didn't amuse them!

I think its stretching things to say that Trump is a victim of media bias, there is enough footage of the things he has actually said, plus a record of his tweets and actions to from a realistic picture of the guy. Not to mention the 4 bankruptcies! Where he gets off scot free and his employees, suppliers etc lose thousands of dollars.

Sure there is a bias in some media, but thats a bit different from right wing media who are openly broadcasting outright lies and conspiracy theories that can be proven not to be true. I think your in danger of believing what you want to believe, you need a more open mind on these matters!

I wouldn't claim that Biden comes with "clean hands", politics in the US is murky at the best of times, but having looked at the details from a variety of sources about Biden's son involvement in the Ukraine, its a potential conflict of interest at best and funnily enough the guy in the iT shop who said the laptop upon which this information was supposedly stored was handed in by Biden's son is legally blind, so not sure how he recognised him!

In respect of Biden's action as US Vice- President, the position regarding aid to the Ukranian President, was in line with what other western governments were taking at the time due to concerns about corruption.

True enough, makes you wonder. Don’t underestimate the ‘gun lobby’ though. I think the NRA has about 5.5m members but they apparently only represent around 20% of gun owners. It’s a strange and disturbing situation in a country which, pre Covid, I’d probably visited about twenty times in the last dozen years and never felt uncomfortable in. Don’t spend much time in the red bits though. ;D

That's so partisan I assumed Swale had written it til I double checked! I'll repeat my mantra from way back in time, it's that sort of dismissive attitude from liberal folk that just hardens the attitude of people who waver between choices. SOME republicans are hillbillies, just the same as some democrats are mealy-mouthed apologists, but when (as Swale points out) Trump/Reps gain MORE Latino votes despite his despicable outbursts, there has to be something else going on. IMO its the same here, a lot of folk you wouldn't expect vote Cons/ UKIP/ Brexit party simply because they are fed up with the status quo

You're beginning to sound like that old sourpuss rA again who would not accept that more people voted for Brexit than voted remain. Its very strange to find such an elitist perspective in someone who, I think, believes in the very opposite of elitism. Those (inferentially) undesirables that you identify as Trump core support have just as much right to vote for anyone they chose to as you do. In that single paragraph you are displaying tendencies I would expect to see in a white supremacist denying the validity of a black person's vote: well they dont count as I'm a better more aware person.

Democracy is about everyone having the right to express an opinion, not just about the democrats having that right.

Incidentally, I share your view in a subsequent post about having visited the states many times but not felt uncomfortable, but you need to get out more into the southern bits, which are broadly speaking red. Very welcoming and generous even if they do take a rifle to church - its only to warn off critters disturbing the Lord's work such as raccoons and coyotes

Well probably a bit of both Geoff, and fair go to rA for at least telling it like it is. I have 'friends' on facebook who take such lines of argument to ridiculous degrees, some arguing with genuine conviction things like the need for an IQ test before being allowed to vote (on the assumption that this would suppress right-leaning votes). I have to say that, based on a much larger sample that this little forum, it would appear that liberal types are more articulate than their opposites - but I may be confusing 'articulate' with 'verbose'
