sacking Steve Davis is not the answer...
He isn't a bad manager, but he isn't abject of blame for example his substitutions...
End of the day we seem to have gone backwards financially since he took over, and questions have to be asked.
If all this stuff about NH is true then it needs to be highlighted.
Let's face it, if we sacked SD who would we realistically get as gaffer? The only person who I could see doing it is baker, because whoever we may want would want funds and an idea of the clubs ambitions which to me seem to be survive on the minimum of playing budgets and play the kids or else.
It all boils down to wages, we don't have to go splashing cash around you can pick up good players on frees and loans, however we are only loaning other teams kids which to me is a waste of time as we need people who can do a job now, not potential.
Nothing will change until we as fans air our voice and put the club under pressure, as daft as it seems mention it on radio sjoke!
re: sacking Steve Davis is not the answer...
He's beginning to sound like his time is up here IMO, his comments are sounding cliched and his comments about "we tried to frustrate them"(at Swindon)sound tired, surely it's time for a new team in now because this team won't win more than half a dozen games this season.
re: sacking Steve Davis is not the answer...
if we did, who would we get?
the problem as I see it is the wages we pay.
one usually gets what one pays for.
pay £500 / week, get a player of that calibre, pay £3000 / week ...
we were lucky the last two years we had a better player in chucks than the wages CAFC were paying. - not forgetting powell, westwood and murphy.
heard on the radio last week brickies are commanding £200/day, so a part time conference player (who also has another day job) is prob on much more / week than our first team. - admittedly, actually earning the money with hard graft ! rather than the mornings work that a player does during the week here at cafc.
id like to see some of our young lads doing a 'normal' job in the afternoon after training, if only to appreciate how lucky they are. actually getting paid for doing a job they enjoy. something that sunday league players do for free, just for the enjoyment.
we get what we pay for, its not rocket science, that on average, the top teams pay the top wages.
re: sacking Steve Davis is not the answer...
SD has his faults, as I have outlined previously. However, he must not be sacked by this board, just given support financially, in order to sign at least 2 quality loan players when the window re-opens on 9th September. Pity we cannot send the couple he has signed already back to their respective clubs, which would leave the door open for more quality signings. From what I have seen of them and what others have said, both Leigh and that fellow from Stoke are not up to the required standard.
re: sacking Steve Davis is not the answer...
Too soon to say that Leigh & Ness aren't up to it, but we totally agree that Davis should be kept on.
I was jealous of Vale in the summer with the signings they made on the back of finishing in the top 10. It seemed that they were making giant steps ahead of us.
However, they have 5pts more than us and have committed BIG wages over the next 3 years...by that time players like Waters and Saunders could be worth millions and they could be back in administration.

Yes, you are probably right in saying that Leigh and Ness should be given more time to bed in. Seems that Ness might just have been a gamble, knowing that his previous injuries have halted his career so far. I think he is out for a month with the latest one.
Vale started well, but have now faltered. Perhaps they too will find L1 a different kettle of fish this time around. I see that they did not pay a penny for any of their 8 (?) signings. We really will see what t

We haven't committed to any big wages beyond a year to be honest. The extra money came from the chairmans picket too. We have the strongest squad we've had since getting relegated from the championship, the manager just isn't utilising them in any way shape for form. Whether it's a case of them needing to gel over e next few weeks or the manager needing a crack on the head, who knows. It's all setting up to be a dire match at the moment!
re: sacking Steve Davis is not the answer...
Sacking Davis is not the answer, who would we get in his place? It would be either Baker or Collins. I cannot see the club going outside since the Icelandic episode.
Leigh and Ness have been brought into a side that is struggling. Certainly with Leigh, he is young and has been part of a Youth team at City that has only really known success. This is a new world to him. He is finding his feet.
With the Vale up next we are not in the form you would want to be in going into a local derby, but neither are the Vale. Apart from the thumping of Doncaster, the Vale have also started poorly.
re: sacking Steve Davis is not the answer...
SD said he couldn't keep giving the same players chance after chance but then added he basically had no other choice.
Most fans are asking the board to give the manager some funds to strengthen and that should have happened pre season not now as unlikely we could afford to get more than loan players in and other clubs got to sign the better players anyway.
SD cannot understand how the team can play so differently against Bolton etc.
Maybe it is motivation as we discussed previously and as most players are looking to move on and upwards, playing against such opposition possibly get them geed up. That may be too simple an explanation but its not many managers that survive 5 straight losses at the start of the season? But then if he knows he has to operate under the boards instructions on funds, then who else could come in and do a better job?
I think I would pay players differently in a small basic wage and a big top up for a win. It happens in some businesses and commerce. It must

I wish it was the case that Davis has not been given any budget for signings but its simply not the case. The problem is that he wastes the budget on Loan signings that don't benefit the club rather than trust the youth system or bring in players we could develop and bring a fee for.
In his first season he gave 26 appearances to loan players, in the 2 that followed he gave 154.
I could also rant about players played out of position, looking like we don't have a game plan going forward, sticking to the same formation constantly, poor signings and that despite clearly needing an experienced centre back loaning in another midfield player.
I'm not saying sack him, i'm just saying lets stop defending him, he's the guy making the choices and he's the guy getting them wrong.
