Burnley v Derby and Stephen Warnock

Warnock at Left Back is Captaining Derby at Burnley tonight.So where does Markus Olsonn fit in ????

And look at the result!
Only six shots on target and four of them goals! Admittedly, two penalties and an O.G. but it is still a superb conversion-rate.
How we could do with a bit of that. (Mind you, it is essential to get shots ON TARGET first :blue: )

Graham won't score alot but he will certainly help Rhodes and his hold up play will bring others into play
going back to original thread he will put pressure on Warnock then will ultimately become first choice next season.

Like many other Rovers supporters,I watched this game on t.v. In spite of being outplayed by Derby for large portions of the game,Burnley thrashed them anyway 4-1. I have been criticized before on this forum(notably last season)for my admiration of Sean Dyches ability to get a gallon(nay three gallons)out of Burnleys pint pot!
With barrels loads of SAFs German(not Scottish ;D )cunning and superb tactical organisation Burnley will be formidable opposition for anyone. What I do admire is Dyches refusal to throw the cheque-book at all and sundry bringing very few players in. You can read his comments on why this is so,very instructive. This is again like SAF of Man.Utd. No mean feat really,cutting your coat according to your cloth.

Maybe Gary Bowyers big problem was bringing 30+ players in.although admittedly most were "low cost"and he did "add value" to the squad,something many managers cannot do. I didnt see massive amounts of motivation,something which is very prevalent in the Bu

I rarely agree with you saxo but this is true he liked to tinker and only stopped doing this from this season
ironically it was the season we struggled to get results
I too hope that we don't get flooded with lamberts old players as time has moved on since their promotion
I remain hopeful and are not swayed by the discontent expressed by some he has only been in the job a few months after all
bowyer had 3 seasons let's at least look at where we are squad wise at the end of the summer

Bang on there Bob, this is something most of us witnessed and why we (and seemingly the 'advisor) voiced our opinion of 'treading water'.
In many cases the view and feeling was that the squad seemed reasonably happy to 'take their turn' and mid table would be enough.
My view was that there was no midfield driving captaincy type force out there on the park demanding more commitment/endeavour. Likewise I couldn't see a touchline that was 'driven' either.
I cannot disagree entirely with Auck's view that all managers need not act in this way to achieve the results, but it certainly helps to display to the watching public there's fire in the belly

He was trying to find decent players with no money at his disposal, and you always get more duds than gems when forced to sift through rejects and those who are past their best. This is why I could never understand the argument that we had one of the best squads in the League and should automatically be in a play-off place, at least.
As Despair implies, I'm still not certain about this motivation-thing. When Burnley went through a bad patch earlier this season, was it because Dyche suddenly lost his motivational powers?
I know I sound like a stuck record, but I think the obsession (throughout the football world) with putting everything down to management means we neglect all the other factors that go into winning a game.

Aucks you misconstrue my viewpoint / criticism in that I am voicing my view that first and foremost it is the obligation of those on the park to give their utmost as highly paid professionals. Where it should not fall to the manager in order for them to do so. That is as individuals.
Where the cohesive effort is needed this is where the onfield leaders come in, and this is where I personally feel we have been lacking more than anything.
Then when the above is not happening, we need to look to the supporting staff on the sidelines to deliver the necessary motivation, drive, encouragement etc.
Last season was by and large a collective failure, not Grant Hanleys, not Ben Marshalls, not Gary Bowyers. But packaged together they (the squad etc.) collectively failed to deliver.
This season was drifting towards a similar outcome IMO, thus brave action was needed and was taken.

Edit: by the way please don't read it that this infers those three individuals collectively were the failures.
