Tony this is sad news….Steve was a regular on here when the site was in its infancy….decent enough lad when you spoke with him in person and definitely knew his football…
His Dad was the club Doctor…not sure if he still is…
RIP Steve…such a young age….share a few stories with the Duke pal up their in footy heaven….
I remember arguing with him on a number of footy related issues Brin.
He posted under stevemu or something similar did he not?
No not Steve Burns the club doctor but his son Steve Burns jnr
Steve was a regular poster on this board (and earlier ones) under the name of stevelmu. His user name came from his time at Leeds Met Uni hence stevelmu.
Steve had been suffering from motor neurone disease and that nasty illness had slowly taken away his mobility and now eventually his life.
Steve was a great bloke and one of the best amateur footballers I had ever seen, a tall striker with a shambling running style that was deceptively fast. He surprised many a defender with his ball control and speed.
Steve was an active member of the Internet Millers and was the leading light when the team won the Worldnet football competition in Leeds.
Some if you may also have met Steve via Camra events because Steve, like his father, was a keen real ale enthusiast.
Steve leaves a wife and children and posted regularly on Twitter and Facebook right up to his death. Throughout all of his woes he kept his sense of humour. A great bloke and he will be sadly missed by many.
Steve Burns, always a Miller, RIP lad.
Thanks for that Grist - I thought it was Steve of IM fame but wasn't sure as I'd never met him. As you say he was very active on here in the site's early years. RIP and condolences to his family and friends.
PS Nice to see you make a guest appearance on here GTTM
Saddened to hear about this (and also thanks to Grist for making an appearance to give us a little more background.) Remember Steve well as a contributor of often wry and to-the-point observations on here and wondered from time to time how he was doing with his MND. I do recall him also from the IM correspondence which I followed with great interest. I think I may have seen him briefly over that weekend Brin organized when we spruced up Millmoor a few years back. Was he there, Brin?
Condolences to all who new him well.
Thanks Grist.
Remember him being a regular poster on here a few years ago.
Such a shame and sad loss to hear of his passing.
Condolences to all his family.
Rest In Peace Steve.
Hi CT.... such a long time has passed since then.... I did however take quite a few shots of the day in question and should I get the chance to retrive them I will let you know if he was indeed there at the time...
Grist's description of Steve is to a tee.... He could wind you up on the board but in person he was a straight top fella....
Time moves on and I didn't know about his family which makes it all the more a sad moment....
NB Nice to see Grist dropping by....
