"The agreement of the lease for the stadium provided that the company created to build the stadium, RU Estates Limited, would undertake these works and the Council would take over maintenance"
RU Estates Ltd is owned by who?
R U Estates is controlled by Tony and Richard Stewart. It keeps the running of the club and the stadium separate.
When people say RUFC operates with no debts, it is true, but R U Estates did borrow from Barclays and pays for the lease of the land from the Council. There may even have been a loan from ASD Lighting, I can't remember.
I think the club and other stadium tenants then pay rent to R U Estates.
It looks like that on the face of things Topsy but you never know what lays behind things.
If for example RU Estates was promised funding for the works via european aid or aid from the government for this work which is now not available then it's quite reasonable to suggest that this could have held up many other projects on the site.
Working with councils is difficult! They will quite rightly lead you down a path where funds are available for you to arrive at the end where you're told that all of the funding has been alicated to other projects.
The investment for raising the stadium by 2.5m will have been enough to get the project up and running.
Another thing to look at is the work that has been carried out upstream. If they keep all of the water in the River Don further up it will get out at it's weakest point. If that is now considered to be Rotherham town centre then when that work is carried out then the problem could end up being the Retail World at Parkgate.
Having looked at the so called flood wall it still looks as though it will run round the back of it at the far end.... apparently that cost half a million to complete???? Big numbers for little work imo....
Just seen this link some might find interesting about river levels, tells you the current level now
