O/t medical advice needed..Labyrynthitis

Had this for a week...improving but still dizziness with head movements.

At beginning couldn't lift head at all without room spinning.

So I've had it one week,cannot drive still,getting frustrated and worried as cruise coming up before Christmas.

Has anyone had this? And if so how long before 100 per cent?

I've had all the possible treatment,prochlorperazine and shhhh keep it quiet but I treated myself with out of date aciclovir and prednisolone that I happened to have from my old stocks.

I know what the books say but any personal experience...when could you get out and function normally again?

Wrong spelling was to get Guitarman from under his stone!

A friend of mine had this and he missed work for about 6 weeks. Even then he never fully recovered and had to resort to medication to allow him to drive. It's not nice

Never heard about this before sounds nasty and debilitating

Had a bout of this last year and saw the top ENT consultant at the Hallamshire. He prescribed cinnarizine which seemed to help and eventually it eased off.Apparently the older you are the longer it lasts. Think its a case of your brain correcting itself to overcome the vertigo.

You never fail!

I had this or something similar which lasted a couple of days. Could not stand and and any movements made me collapse. Went to a&e, they didn't prescribe anything, but had to do some exercises to move the fluids around in my ear.

Yeh..cinnarizine helps symptoms

Shouldn't be too long in me then at a young 57.

I think my self treatment may swing it my way.

Doctors here are fed the same nonsense of not enough evidence to use an antiviral plus steroids but standard management in USA

It's the cruise that worries me rocking and rolling etc!

Feeling sorry for myself as I don't tolerate my own illnesses very well.

The quick improvement suggests that I haven't got a space occupying lesion pressing on the nerve and equal pupils suggests not posterior inferior cerebellar artery syndrome although I do have balance problems and nystagmus.

Interesting that one or two have had this or friends have.

At last a reassuring post with quick recovery.

I have done a self epley manoeuvre but didn't help but I think that's more effective in Benign Position Vertigo( should be another P somewhere I think can't remember offhand)

May look the exercises up but I'm very poor at sticking to these sort of things.

My mother in law had this and ended up in northern general.. not nice at all...sends you all dizzy apparently. .and shes dizzy enough as it is...
