Burton’s Troubles

Burton are struggling for goals and haven’t won in five games and have only picked 10 points from 13 games and you have to wonder how they are going to turn their fortunes around with the likes of record signing Boyce out for the season and their star man Jackson Irvine no longer with the club who was their influential player in their Championship survival campaign last term and you have to wonder why they didn’t try and keep him at the club and help build the club around your star player.

Burton are expected to find themselves in a relegation dogfight once again but Burton really need to invest in their squad if they have any hopes of surviving the Championship this campaign with the current crop of players they have at their disposal.

Don't know if they have the money, but to reach the Championship is something outstanding for them.

They don’t necessarily have to pay a fee for a player of their choosing Burton though Clough is one for the loan market but will have to wait to January for him to do so but he can dip in the free agent market and offer a player that they are interested in a wage that suits them.

They aren't broke but aren't rich. They made a profit last season of something like £1.3M. NC will have that money to spend, if he hsan't already. The same goes for the £2M they got for Irvine.

What will limit NCs options is Albion's chairman Ben Robinson. Ben will never allow the club to go into debt. A small, one season loss is one thing but he insists that it is rectified by cutting costs the next season. Ben runs a tight ship and will keep it that way. It's a great shame that all clubs aren't forced to keep out of debt. The game would be a lot fairer.

Yes! they made profit which is wonderful for the club but they need to be more ambitious not overboard but enough to survive and keep them going for another season at the least. Clough is not one for spending mind you we seen that at Derby when he rather go for loans but his team are desperate for goals and he needs to find them from somewhere or his team will only be heading down.

Ben is known for backing his managers and if Clough chooses he wants to bring players in to help ease the ship i’m sure Ben will be willing to help Nigel.

Burton's troubles are not as you put it - troubles.
They always knew that Tier 2 would be a struggle and they're prepared for it. Surviving 1 season was a huge bonus, but even if they go down, they won't be too disappointed, if they gave it another go.

As it is they're only 1 point adrift. They know how to fight despite some hefty losses. They don't mind losing badly to the table toppers, so long as they can eke out results against clubs at the bottom or mid-table. The only worry is goals, just 6 from 13 games. The target is 48 points, 50 to be safe. They might just be able to do it again.

£5m or £2m Clough will be happy with whatever budget he get’s but it’s how he uses that wisely that what counts. Burton’s troubles are troubles because they find themselves without a goal in 5 games and they can look at that and say well no one expects us to be higher then what we are so there is nothing to worry about and if we get relegated then so be it but that is negative way of looking at it from Burton’s view, they need to show more ambition that they belong in this division they showed that last season by managing to scrape relegation by just a point and they need to go and show that again, they will need to push extra harder this season because there are much better teams in this division then there was last season and Burton had a much stronger squad at their disposal.

I don't think it's tougher, Burton are not aiming for a top 6 finish. They're preparing for another relegation dogfight. So far it's not dire, they're still well within several club's range.
And I don't thing they are lacking in ambition in not wanting to stay in the division - that portion of your response is somewhat strange or illogical.
They remain strong favourites for the drop for sure, but what they need is start winning more home games and snatching a result away now and again. I think they faced more of the top 8 clubs thus far, and should be judged after they play teams around them.
Clough's been there over 10-12 years overall. He knows his players and I'm sure he's looking for someone to shore up defense and a striker from the lower leagues capable of scoring in Tier 2.

Whatever it is, it's definitely not lacking ambition as you suggest.

But showing more ambition means Ben putting his hand in his pocket, I'd love to know Burton's revenue but it won't be much I'd guess, it's a small town and they just don't generate the crowds so ticket sales won't be much, then you have sponsorship which again won't be much I'm sure, we need Roger to do a bit of research as I might be bigging them down too much.

It's OK having ambition but it's ambition that puts clubs at risk of going out of business, Ben knows his clubs and his own financial limitations and will probably be happy with 2 seasons in tier 2

Did I say that they were aiming for top 6 NO! Did I say it was all doom for Burton NO! All I said was that they need to find a goal from somewhere within their current squad of players that they have got and try and stay in this division but I don’t see them getting a goal anytime soon with the current crop of players that they have got.

They need to show more ambition that they want to stay in this division and get those points on board, they beat teams last season that they never thought that they would beat and they would get relegated on the first attempt but due to their irrational thinking they did not and managed to survive in this tough competitive league. They did an amazing job in getting a point at Norwich and there is no excuse on why they can not grind out good results.
