Ok, so...if the season is written off and they don't decide to continue it next, erm...'season'....should Liverpool be awarded the title?

I'm torn. Technically, the answer is 'no' because they could-mathematically-be overtaken. I know they wouldn't be (well...actually, the pedant in me won't let me use 'know' without qualifying it because you can't actually know something that hasn't yet happened regardless of how inevitable it is, death excluded :D ) but you get my point

But, from a 'fairness' point of view? Yes. They've been by far the best team and only need , what, 2 wins to claim the title?

For me, it's 'yes'. It's never going to feel the same as winning it by playing a match and it will always be tainted to a degree but I think they've earned it.

However if the title is awarded then surely relegation needs to happen as well. Then it becomes a much trickier issue.

No. Not because of Liverpool but because it would mean that all relegation, playoff places etc would also have to stay as they are today which would be unacceptably unfair.

As Alan Shearer said, you can't award trophies on the back of probabilities.

The answer is that, by one way or another, the season and all its games must be completed. Even if it means curtailing (or even cancelling) next season. IMO football would be harmed forever by ending a season early without warning and handing out the prizes and relegations before completion of all games.

Aye this.

More than happy for Liverpool to have the title and Vile to go down, but not really fair for all the teams involved to assume there is going to be no change in the rest of the tables with almost a quarter of the games left to play. ..

I reckon the season most be finished either this year or next. It would be hollow for Liverpool to win and I don't think they would want it that way either as it would forever be cast in doubt by the Mancs and others.

And as Toptoon says, relegation and promotion must be considered too as these are much more controversial situations with much more at stake for these clubs.

Play a shortened season next year if necessary. Each team playing each other once instead of twice.with equal numbers of home and away games.

now they have moved the euros all leagues will get done and played out
maybe behind closed doors

but for legal reasons they will get it finished

if the season didnt finish and they still gave Liverpool the title what would happen to the bottom 3 currently ? they would still have to get relegated if they use the Liverpool format. The Lawyers would have a field day though.
