O/T:- Spoty

Out of the 6 shortlisted for this years Sport personality of the Year who is your pick?

The 6 finalists are:
1. Tom Daley - Diving
2. Tyson Fury - Boxing
3. Adam Peaty - Swimming
4. Emma Raducanu - Tennis
5. Raheem Stirling - Kick ball
6. Dame Sarah Storey - Paralympic Cyclist

For me it's a toss up between Peaty and Raducanu.

Peaty has shown amazing strength and determination to ensure he has remained at the pinnacle of world swimming for the last few years and remains the only swimmer to have gone sub 57 seconds in the 100m Breaststroke.

Raducanu on the other hand is just a sensational story. At 19 she's got a long way to go before she can be mentioned amongst the world's best players but her journey to the fourth round at Wimbledon and then to win the US Open, as a qualifier without dropping a set was for me the one most spine tingling moment in British sport this year.

I'm edging towards Peaty though with Raducanu a very close second.

Tyson Fury is certainly a worthy contender, because he beat Deontay Wilder again and is showing himself to be maybe the best heavyweight boxer Britain has ever produced. That said, he's made it clear he doesn't want the BBC award so I'll respect his wishes.

Beyond him, I'd have to say Emma Raducanu, because winning the US Open so early in her career is an astonishing achievement.

Surely this merits a thread on its own, otherwise ncfcog's Spoty thread will go off at a strange tangent! Then again, most threads do that! ;)

Emma by a landslide

Bigger sporting achievement, and has/will have far bigger wide ranging impact.

Tyson is the only one on the list with a personality but it will probably go to Raducanu just for that win, even though she hasn't exactly pulled up any trees since.
My vote would be for Storey to claim it as she has been winning medals for nearly 20 years across two sports and deserves to be shortlisted.

Raducanu is 1/20 to win it, so it's a case of who finishes second.

The real winner should be Rachael Blackmore, but unfortunately she doesn't qualify.

Dame Sarah Storey for me.

Can't see though why it's still called 'personality' as now it's sports person.

Sterling? Looks like they needed a footballer on the list - not really sure what he's done this year worthy of being SPOTY.

Pretty sure it will be Radacanu.

Give her a break her simply incredible US Open triumph was less than 3 months ago! Before that she was the last Brit standing at Wimbledon with a fantastic run to the round of 16.

No doubt who wins and deservedly so, I guess it all depends what they are looking for in the criteria as to who deserves it most.

Based on research showing more women than men take the trouble to vote, Radacanu is a shoe-in. If the award is equating sports and personality, then it's probably Fury by some distance. However Mr Fury is unpredictable and unlovable so he's not likely to figure. Peaty let himself down by not getting to the finals of Strictly. :P
