Looks like Chesterfield might have to get the begging bowl out again and ask their fans for more contributions !

Non-league club Chesterfield left in shock at getting 'VAR bill' from Chelsea FA Cup match

Chesterfield were dumbstruck when they received a bill for the use of VAR in their 5-1 FA Cup Third Round loss to Chelsea, with the Spireites' CEO John Croot saying he was "shocked


Unless they have got insurance for such an act of god ! or the premier league, then it looks like they will have to add the cost onto the frost pitch cover campaign

Wouldn't they take it out of their share of gate receipts

Why are we getting these posts about Chesterfield? I know they are our rivals for promotion but unless its related to something to do with that ( which it isn't) I don't really care.

Oh dear .... It Seems you care enough to post ? but if it helps I will recap. They are now known as cheaterfield for obvious reasons ,(or maybe not so obvious) as they ferloughed their squad and then went out and spent big with ferloughed money ( tax payers money)to re invest in a new squad to push for promotion. Not only this they were insured against Covid in the first place so not only have they stolen money from the Government and Us they are now getting insurance payments to also invest in their push for promotion. In the process of doing this they have spent all their money on players and inadvertently forgot they needed all weather covers for the pitch. This is where it gets interesting , so having Spaffed ( good old Boris) all their stolen and inherited money up the wall they go to their fans cap in hand asking for donation for the said all weather pitch covers. The end of the story you might think but no ! they have now received a bill from Chelsea FC for using the VAR facilities in the cup tie and are a bit miffed and upset that they have been given the bill even though they were told about it before the game, that the costs are shared. Now I'm sure they have money to pay for this but as history would dictate, if there is a way of getting out of paying for this expect a call for a handout from the taxpayers or their own fans enabling them to spend all their cash in a quest for promotion.

Think the VAR bill - half of £9,250 - came as a shock to all the non-Premier League teams competing at the weekend - I heard the same comment from Shrewsbury. It's deducted from the match receipts, so Chesterfield won't be receiving an invoice for it.

It seems crazy to be using it in some ties and not others, though - if Aston Villa had scored the exact same goal at, say, Forest rather than Old Trafford, it would have stood because it wouldn't have been checked.

Agreed it is either used at all grounds or none.

Don't really care about Chesterfield but this is a real issue for lower league clubs and certainly takes a bit of shine off playing premier league clubs at home.

Thanks for this Pedro. I seemed to have missed all this first time round.
I don't see how they could spend furlough money because it was claimed as 90% of players and staff's salaries (up to a limit) and had to be paid to the employees in order to keep them on the books. If not then surely they must be being investigated by the treasury.

As for the insurance aspect, it seems like an astute (or lucky) move on their part. Why couldn't all clubs do it?

I suppose at the end of the day it will be a one off benefit and they will soon be struggling like the rest of us.

I think the most upsetting thing about payments during lockdown was the amount Boreham Wood goy.
Was it £16000 less than us when their crowds were 700 compared to ours.
You looked where they are now and I think they were laughing all the way to the bank.
