Rooney.

Just caught the end of something on R5L. Rooney apparently offered the post at Everton but turned it down because he feels he still has a job to do at Derby.
If I heard it right he would be proud to be Everton manager one day but for the time being he has things to do at Derby.
All credit to the man if it is as described.

Correctly, he turned down an interview.
If he was offered the job, would the reply be the same?

I don't think his commitment can be doubted.
Personally, I thought he'd walk when this started to hit the fan. I genuinely believe(d) he didn't understand the gravity of the situation, as he was making plans like everything was normal.

Yet he carried on and got what he had/has, performing above their level in my opinion.
That is very rare in managers. We've both watched the likes of Clough do it and there are others around today like Dyche who does it.
I actually think our current manager does something similar. He took a side who took 1 point from its first 7 games, and turned it around over night.

So no, I will say Rooney has done himself proud in this situation, as last season he looked lost.

He will have his pick of jobs after this season, I imagine will be looking for something more promising

Disappointingly pessimistic Ramshank. IF, as seems likely, we do get relegated but can start again without anything hanging over us in League One next season I’m optimistic that we could see something resembling an Arthur Cox style ‘resurrection’ under Rooney.
From a managerial point of view wouldn’t it be preferable to be in charge of a resurgent Derby County, playing in front of big fired up crowds every other week, rather than some struggling top flight outfit?
Personally I remember our last Premier League ‘adventure’ as the most depressing season I’ve experienced as a DCFC supporter.

Unless he has a poor season next year (despite our brilliant efforts, this is still very likely to be in League One), which would hamper his chances of a top flight managerial career. Would you begrudge him a top flight opportunity after this season, which, is already a success in my eyes?
Everton may be a poisoned chalice at this point, but there's always a Southampton type lying around that wouldn't be such a gamble.

If he saves us, or even fails gloriously, I wouldn't begrudge him a pop at a prem job.

Win, lose or draw I reckon most managers would rather be doin' their thing at places like Old Trafford or Anfield than Fleetwood or Accrington

No, of course I wouldn’t...but personally - and I mean exactly that - I’d rather be part of a Clough (Snr)/Cox build back at a club like Derby than one of the yo-yo Premier clubs.
