Transparency and referees

Watching the rugby union 6 nations and the referees are set up with a microphone system where you can hear every word they say to the players and to their assistants on or off the pitch. Everybody clearly knows what the decision was and why a penalty or scrum or possesssion was given.

Would this approach be of benefit to football so we know what the ref is going and why he’s doing it?

Or are the officials so **** that they are happier keeping us in the dark?

This. Those in command won't want to be transparent about how inept they are. If they are microphoned up you would hear the ridiculous reasons they come up with for some decisions. Hearing them try explain some decisions would be painful so limiting what we hear to just the whistle at least leaves open the possibility we have missed something and they know more. If they were heard explaining stupid calls it would make everything worse. They are just crap, in the main.

I don't want them to be quiet or loud, just competent.

Like CAM said yesterday, having a 57 year old try and keep up with mostly 20 something athletes over the entire pitch is stupid.

Thinking about i don’t think it’s a good idea for all to hear (might piss fans off even more) but id like to see officials give interviews after every game like managers do, why not? Some of us might understand where they’re coming from or they (some) might learn how inept they actually are

That ref we had yesterday was suppose to be a championship ref, that is just unbelievable

That would be interesting to hear how some, or should I say most, players speak to the referee. If they bring it in then i hope they have a bleep bit in it for all the foul language that footballers use when addressing referees, but i like the sentiment behind it Grist that at least we as supporters, would be able to listen to the conversation between match referee and VAR referee. UTM.

Or as in the Premiership where refs seem to be the player’s long lost brother

“Anton, Anton, don’t do that Anton”

“ Wayne, that was a foul”

Etc etc

Never been to a live 6 nation's game. Do the crowd hear what the ref and players are saying or is it just the TV audience?

Like I follow you can get it on your phone and hear what the tv broadcast hears

Plus you can obviously review it if you’ve recorded the game.

To take yesterday for example I still have no idea why Mr Pickwick had to stop the game to stroll over to chat with the 4th official

In fact it’s a mystery why he made most of the decisions

their fans said .
Bigger club , loud fans. ref gave them everything.

He didn't. He left the decisions to the 4th official and linos

I'm sure he watched the replay of Dan,s goal on the big screen and then awarded the goal after the celebrations

Mr Woolmer is indeed a Championship ref. Why do we grade our Refs?? Doesn't it matter about decisions in the lower leagues? Some one somewhere might lose their job thro it.....so it doesn't matter?
