Players’ Contracts and Termination

Does anyone have any factual information ? Whilst individual to each player, I suspect that there will be common clauses regarding termination, whether at the player’s demand or Club’s.

With a typical 3 year contract, £20,000 a week, I’m interested to know what the standard termination terms are likely to be.
After 1 year, if the Club wishes to terminate, what is their settlement figure liability I wonder ? Surely not the full mathematical liability ?

Irrespective of one’s views on Livermore, his contract may be copper bottomed and too financial onerous to terminate. Better option to try and get value on the field…is Zohore similar ?

Interesting that transfer fees are often quoted as ‘up to’ £xmillion. I remember that the Zohore transfer (from Cardiff?) was quoted in the press as “up to £8m” suggesting some performance conditions and therefore wriggle room.

Clearly there is much more involved in a tightly financially restrained Club than just ‘clearing out’.

I would guess that they would have to gain agreement from the player via compromise agreement if they want to terminate the contract and pay less than owed.

Some would take a half payment and then get another club but he’ll know no one will want him. We’re lumbered with him for the whole contract unfortunately.

I don’t like Livermore and think he’s not a great player but don’t mind him as a squad option, just not first team week in week out.

I was winging people up with my £50k a week for Livermore.

I know for definite though that this last year of his contract is paying him £37k a week.

Would be interested to hear how we can get value on the field from Livermore? Wearing the Baggie Bird costume perhaps!

How can value be extracted when he can’t pass - mistimes his tackles because he’s too slow - there’s zero creativity and he goes missing more times than not.

Can someone please help where this value may be? I have tried to be positive with suggesting he wears the Baggie Bird or even Boiler costume which could save Lai fifty quid in wages! Perhaps an actor part for strutting out his chest in the West End too!

I understand your point regarding the player’s agreement to a compromise / reduced figure…but why would the player take it ? You would think such compromises have been offered to Zohore and others, but they prefer to play in the 2nd team or go on loan but still pick up their contracted wages? Thus, I wonder if there are clauses linking full contract wages to 1st tram / squad selection ?

His job isn’t as a creative player, thanks to the idiot in charge we played an entire season without a number 10, absolutely bonkers! Livermore is a CDM nothing more nothing less, play him as that and he is decent, footy isn’t rocket science just seems that our club has been run by idiots who know nothing at all about playing round pegs in round holes and how to balance a side.

I guess you would only take it if you could get a similar deal elsewhere, maybe slightly less and the figure from your old club is like a bonus then. Those on fantastic deals won't take it...like Phil Jones at United.

I imagine most players have a wage plus bench or starter fee. This has come out from the Warnock investigation, in that he allegedly asked Rowan Vine to give him his starter bonus of £6k a month to play him.

I know it was a predictive error Prando but I think the ‘linking full contract wages to the 1st TRAM’ is an accurate description of where we are. So many seem to think we can just get rid of contracted players, save a load of money and then replace.

Anyone who has had to deal with employee contracts will know that getting rid of people you no longer want on your books is far from easy.

If they want out, via the first tram, in most of our cases we will have to pay up the contract and then pay someone else to replace them. I agree with Dubs most of the players we have now are likely to still be here this season.
