OT/Petrol station blast.

A strange one this. The other day I was getting diesel for my car and I couldn't believe that someone was smoking while filling up. Quite staggering just how ignorant people are in general. Common sense is gone in this modern age as people have become to reliant on technology for everything.
I told him how stupid he was and that he was endangering others. He appeared not to have a clue of the danger.

I have no idea what caused the explosion at this garage in County Donegal. Possibly a stray spark. :s

Terrible news and a devastated community. The controls these days over petrol/diesel stations and fuel storage are quite strict so don't know what caused the explosion but my heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones there. Read about this just after I'd heard of the killing of those children and teachers at a primary school in Thailand. Be nice to hear some good news for a change (Bruce has gone maybe?)

They seem to think it was a gas leak.

Smoking at a petrol station should leave you liable to losing your driving licence if you’re caught either by police or on CCTV.

You do realise that there are many out there today who don’t understand that a spark can ignite gas or fuel fumes don’t you?

In schools these days they are more interested in teaching Wokeness than teaching basic common sense.

We have patients who go to the front of the hospital for a smoke and they will be hooked up to pure oxygen. You honestly could not make it up.

The death toll has risen to ten now. A young girl has now been found. Still missing people I understand.

Mobile phones are as deadly at petrol stations as well.

I do not believe there have ever been any verifiable documented cases of mobile phone useage leading to fuel ignition at fuel stations anywhere. Investigations by both mobile phone operators and fuel retailers have found that the risk of such an incident occurring is also extremely low but whilst some might claim the link to then be an urban myth, both recognize that there remains the potential for it to happen. However unlikely it is that use of a mobile would lead to fuel ignition, given the severity of potential consequences it makes perfect sense to try and ensure they are not used.

True.
Ten years ago we use to tell relatives not to use mobile phones on the ICU but not anymore.
The technology has changed.

There is/was a clip on YouTube of a fuel delivery at a fuel station. It was dark so the driver used his torch on his phone, the tanker and the driver caught fire. It's not the fuel but the fumes. Maybe technology has changed but I wouldn't take the risk. Unlike some I can leave a phone alone for five minutes while I fill up.
