Rather poignant if that’s the right word, that bbc are showing an Hereford home cup tie live on Friday night…

Ronnie Radford who scored probably one the most memorable FA Cup goals has sadly passed away aged 79.
I was 12 years old at the time and when we next got back to school that's all we wanted to talk about that day.
What a fantastic goal and played on what was a farming potato field. How would the modern day footballer play on that!
Malcolm Macdonald looked awesome rising to bang in a towering header at the back post but, Hereford were to have the last say and laugh in the tie. Cue Radford and after initially going to ground after a tackle he gets up and passes the ball to one of his own, the ball is laid back to him and boom! What a scorcher of a goal that no goalie would have stopped!
As was the norm then, the fans invaded the pitch with joyous scenes. Not to be outdone Hereford pressed again. Radford to Tyler, Tyler to George who spun on a sixpence and slotted it into the bottom corner, cue pandemonium.
A fantastic win for Hereford but will always be remembered because of that Radford goal.
RIP Ronnie and thanks for a great memory.

I was 6 in 1972 so can't remember it 'live' but remember it not long after and have seen it time and time again since.Iconic for so many reasons.....the pitch, the kits, the crowds and of course,John Motson. It totally encapsulates the nostalgia of my generation's childhood and you can almost smell the Bovril and cigarette smoke when watching the clip.It also reminds us of how big the FA Cup was back then and how FA Cup Final Day was only 2nd to Christmas Day for the biggest day of the year. Now I don't even know when the kick off is! If I could choose a Millers clip of that era to watch more than any other it would have to be when we beat Arsenal 3-1 in 79.I would anything to see that but sadly I have never heard of any footage out there.
