I’m thinking of getting two outside security cameras (one for front, one for back) having done an online search the place is awash with different cameras and options I’m a complete novice so please don’t bambuzal me 😫I’d prefer not to pay a monthly fee, any advice madsters?

Your best bet is to go to any installer and say you want a 2 cam installation with a hard drive that you can replay, either WiFi or hard wired.
I would assume, correct me if I am wrong that you would not be comfortable with one using an online app.
And no monthly fee.
As Crash said best to get a local installer to fit system.

I had in mind something that would send an alert to my mobile phone whenever someone comes within range of camera. I’m guessing that’s easy once set up?

The battery life isn't 180 days. More like 90/100 days. Can't fault them.

Dont go down the verisure route. Complete rip off and 3 year contract. Plus some old codger might come out if alarm goes off.
Oh no alarm on house that's handy then.
And if you don't want to carry on with contract, they take all equipment back.
Don't buy naff all off interweb go to the professionals, but Google them first.
