Next years CL spots

In season 24/25 the number of CL spots a league gets will increase IF that league’s teams perform as one of the best 3 performers in the 23/34 (current) season.

So if English teams perform to a certain level we’ll have 5 spots in the CL next season, but has anyone seen if there is an establish ‘scoring’ for final finishes or similar that dictates how that works?

I think it’s likely that us, City and Arsenal will get out of the group stages… on Man Utd’s showing against Sheff Utd I’m questioning if they will even beat Copenhagen… but wonder what we end up needing (overall) to get that extra spot in the CL.

On a side note, imagine if Man Utd finished 5th, but their own performance in the CL resulted in that spot not counting… obviously only funny when we finish in the Top 4 ;-)

I believe it is just 2 extra spots for 2 best nations in uefa ranking in previous season (not 5 year accumulation).

In general, there are 2 points for win and 1 point for draw divided by number of teams performing. Some extra points for qualifying to play-off etc

Currently England is 3rd behind italy and spain.

How are England Behind Italy & Spain in any metric?

They both under preformed at the last Euros. Italy didn't even qualify for the world cup in Qatar.

Spanish & Italian clubs have been out performed by English clubs in Europe with West Ham & City both winning their respective European cup competition.

Indeed it would be very interesting to actually see how these metrics are calculated. Platini's Euro fat thumb on the scales for the clubs outside of the Premier League.

Just read an article, looks like the most likely path of runs is based on 2 spots (though overall there are 4 - but 1 will not apply to us (as we are one of the Top 10 leagues, so overall there is 3) and it is based on this seasons coefficient for ALL Prem teams in Europe, that includes Scousers,Villa, Brighton and West Ham

We've recovered incredibly well from our mini-blip but it's a long, old season and I keep going back to that stat about teams in their first CL season finishing 8th on average.

4th this season would be our most astounding achievement for decades.

I honestly believe Villa will be up there also..

I think over the next few years we will get better and better no doubt and we are still in transition but I think Villa will strengthen more than us over the next 2 windows but then start to fall back as our finances overtake theirs..

I don't think we get top 4 this season but I would be happy in the top 7, although it does look like the top 10 will be the strongest top 10 in Europe I would say with:

and I think even west ham will be up there or thereabouts

There is going to be a lot of money injected into the premier league very soon with new TV rights coming in, we just need to try and stay savvy with our business in January then look at what the new sponsors next season in Adidas and Saudi airlines bring in.. I feel the summer window will see a big change in playing staff

I think Man U will struggle this season, and could even finish out of the top half.

Yes they got 3 points yesterday but it was a massive effort against Sheff U.

They were lucky to beat Wolves with the pen decision, they had to come back from 2-0 down to beat Forest… all their points so far are from teams that will finish in the bottom half… by the time they get to Xmas they’ll be lucky to be anywhere near the Top 6 baring some kind of miracle.

As for us, not assuming we will finish in the Top 4/5, but we’ve got our season massively back on track and have shown how much we can get a tune out of Murphy and Longstaff, how wrong most of us (me included) about having to buy a right footed centrehalf in the summer… Lascelles has been immense against teams like PSG and City FFS 😁, and this is while Botman is out to come back, Joelinton is just coming back, Willock is due to come back, Isak is recovering from injury but came on, Livramento is getting game time and Barnes will come back.

Yes Tonali is going to be missing for a lot of time, but we genuinely have a real strength in depth I didn’t appreciate at the start of the season.

Injuries of lack of them will probably dictate where we finish, but we have as good a shot of making Top 4/5 as any team after City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

It’s true our squad has suddenly ‘deepened’ but not just due to signings but due to our coaching staff. Players that most of us wanted rid of at one time or other are now first teamers - Murphy, Joelinton, Miggy, Longstaff, Lascelles. They’ve done an incredible job.

It's a pity they didn't get grips on Matty Longstaff in time to give him proper coaching to bring him up to par, the more home grown Geordies in the squad the better for the club as well as the balance books.
