Holy f ck. I don’t think i could count how many brain cells these interviewees had in one hand. The only one view I could agreed on was about integration. But that’s about it.
To think this lot voted Brexit and what it’s caused. Jeez!

Still don’t get the Brexit thing do you Regis. This lot, that lot, right wing, left wing. Got Nothing to do with it. It’s simply not having to be waiting on 27 member nations to agree on something when it should have only been about trade. That’s it. Every country has different concerns and Brussels should have nothing to do with it.

In all seriousness though, many of the issues they raise are genuine concerns that warrant proper discussion but it is just that they have swallowed particular ideas about the causes or the solutions without too much critical thinking. "Passionate ignorance" one commentator called it.
The Christian fella may be right about lack of community spirit in many places now but the causes of this are complex and certainly not just down to an erosion of Christian beliefs in the country. The various clear ups following the recent riots also proved that community spirit can be found regardless of colour or religious belief. He was right though when he says that fear and division plays a large part in the break down of communities and I agree with him that issues around integration can be as much a part of this as racism/xenophobia.
The worst one interviewed was certainly the woman! Defending the water companies FFS! Of course an ever rising population puts a strain on the water supply/sewerage infrastructure but these companies reap in millions with their bosses taking massive bonuses. Had it not occurred to her that they might instead spend that money improving the infrastructure?
She also confuses generational wealth with white privilege and gets very worked up about this whilst her grasp of history is sketchy at best. She talks of the origins of the Industrial Revolution beginning in Britain and mentions the Lancashire cotton industry (while neglecting to say where/how we got the cotton) but doesn't mention the Black Country and clearly she isn't aware of which civilizations (non European) contributed to so many of our ideas on mathematics, science, medicine etc. 3 degrees? What in? Certainly not critical or joined up thinking.
I do get it Boingy. Only Mick has had the decency to put his hands up and say he voted wrong, and I totally respect him for that. Anyway I’m not playing the gotcha card. More what is it people thought we’d be getting from brexit? Being told or waiting on 27 members to agree on something? What difference has that made. What benefit have we got from this? If that was your reason.. what, why.. really? Now we can do what we want?? Like bankers allowed to give themselves huge bonuses? Well played Boingy. You’ve been conned. In my industry of sports and when I worked in grocery, there were various buying groups operating that allowed smaller retailers to achieve larger discounts from brands, this economic arrangement makes sense as did the EEC in its initial guise.
That was all it got you though, economic advantage……that’s where the Eu went wrong.
I remember my Grandads words when I asked him how he felt about the common market. He simply said “It’s a good idea as long as that’s all it is” He was dubious as well. If you think back to the Eu of 2015 when Cameron tried to get us some concessions and the Eu during and just post Brexit, the Eu thing seems to be a lot more under pressure and less confident of itself than it was in the 2010’s?
I’m miles away from being any sort of sage on political matters, others on here are better qualified I think and I enjoy listening to those other people more these days.

I was too dogmatic in pushing Brexit.
In truth, all sides including the Eu became too entrenched in their positions rather than looking for tenable solutions that would have served us all a lot better.
