541 showed we aimed not to concede. Failed but only just. For the Oxford game it will be another Hammy/Bucko/Bradders recipe as the new guy (PE?) won't have had time to look at the players etc.
I'm hoping for a 1433 or 14231 as I don't think 1442 is in the vocabulary.
For me this is at the very least a mustn't lose and is probably must win. Let's give it a go.
Got to win I think. Scrappy 1 nil
Well hopefully having proven we have a defence, Eustace will work out how to turn solid performances into those crucial wins!
Urgency and confidence. The two things Eustace needs to bring to this team asap, along with the ability to pass to a teammate.
Clarke and Langas apart - surely Clarke should be captain - that really was shockingly poor, but at least it’s two games unbeaten.
Largas - I can?t think of a better home debut. I don?t think the defence (when defending) needs tinkering with
Everything else pretty poor at best. Jackson invisible, Goojmin lightweight, Harness and Yates headless chickens, Adams negative and careless
Onwards and upwards eh!
5 home games without scoring ain't good, I hope the new manager is a member of the magic circle! Somehow he needs to make a silk purse out of a sows ear, jeez where did some of this lot come from? 💩
These are, basically, the same "this lot" that hammered Bristol and Pompey and put in other impressive displays, albeit not 90 minute ones, against Swansea (last 65), Wednesday (first hour) etc.
It's that M&W Andre Previn sketch being played out on a football pitch.
Scoreline 0-0. We had the most possession. Most shots 14-6. Most shots on target 4-1. Even won the xG stat. Same old problem. That final pass or the shot not being good enough. Goudmijn took the ball well on his chest, moved left to make room and then dragged his shot wide. Phillips had a shot blocked and then put the rebound just over. Salvesen a header straight at the keeper and an acrobatic left footer that didn't have the power and went straight to the keeper. NML a 110kph shot... straight at the keeper.
Close but no cigar. They had a 15 minute spell in the 2nd half but that led to no credible shots on goal apart from one that went about 8 yards wide. If it had hit someone in the box it might have deflected in. That 1st half Dembele shot was their only decent attempt.
JWZ had a 5 minute spell where he looked iffy but for the rest of the game, did what he had to.
Back 3 were excellent with Langas brilliant.
The rest were average at best for much of the game.
"Socials". Very negative. No Warne to blame so... obviously Hammy is getting hammered. The players are getting hammered. The board are getting hammered.. We've halted a 7 League game run of defeats. 2 games now without a loss. All journeys start with the first step. We've now taken 2 steps on the "onwards and upwards" road. It's a start. They looked less of a sow's ear last night and that is an improvement.
UTR!
