Mine wasnt quite as cool as that one!
I went out to buy STATUS QUO- IF YOU CANT STAND THE HEAT but they had no copies left in stock so bought QUO - BLUE FOR YOU instead.
Probably a better album as it turned out
Did go to see Wolfgang Flur last month at Hare and Hounds though. Really enjoyed that
First album that I remember buying was A Hard Days Night which I believe came out in 1964. Probably not their best but it was the first one that I could afford. Had to do extra after school grocery deliveries to raise the money to buy it and, even then, could only play it on Mum and Dad's radiogram! Took me a little while longer to get my first record player.
Don't know if this counts, but the first L.P. I bought was a kids Panda label Batman in 1966😁
After that I started buying singles at first (partly because they were cheaper of course! ) and then, once I was working part time jobs at school I started to save up for albums. Seem to remember I also used Tandy mail order to help build up my collection as well as perusing all those chain and indie record shops that we used to have back in the day. I now have hundreds of vinyl / CD/ tapes across lots of genres much to the better hall's annoyance given the small size of our bungalow 😁
Rick Beato makes a good point about the decreasing value we seem to place on music these days. In the past we used to have to save up to buy vinyl albums and you would listen to every track and pore over the liner notes and share your interest with mates. These days you have access to virtually every song ever released for about £10/ month on streaming platforms and can just select individual tracks that are generally only the best known. There is less effort to attain the music and less effort in consuming it and the result is probably a de-valuing of it as it becomes more disposable.
Plus, of course, whilst a decently mastered CD may be an improvement on how most vinyl is actually heard, holding a vinyl album is a vastly different physical thing and arguably more satisfying than holding a CD but both are surely better than streaming where you have no physical aspect and lower quality audio to boot. Then again, could just be my age showing...
Tubular Bells and Darkside of the Moon.
I did also have the Music from Ben Bur (1959 film) and recording of Tony Hancock’s Blood Donor and the Radio Ham.
Eclectic or what ? Maybe Eccentric
Mine was the Beach Boys and still even now my favourite song is - God Only Knows.
Kinks - The Kinks.
