WOW !
So ... where the Hell did that come from ?
1. Front 3; the high press and never-ending running / shutting down was a joy to watch. Delighted to see Shields on the score-sheet; his fitness levels post-injury look to be almost there, and his enthusiasm rubbed off on Woolery big-style (he was reborn).
2. Solholm, Mugabi and FFS Lamie ... solid, solid and rock solid.
3. Points 1 and 2 allowed us to actually play some stuff in midfield as well; that was something of a novelty, but if we keep 1 and 2 going as good as it was today then we should see more of Slattery, Maguire and Goss in the games.
Best performance in 4/5 months; of that there's no doubt !!
That’s a very good summary, Sieb. Exchanging texts with a Jambos friend after the game, I described us as “rock solid in all departments” - and he agreed. The midfield held its own against their supposedly more skilful opponents and the forwards and defenders were all on their game. It was refreshing to watch - let’s hope we get more of the same.
... and Willie Gollum sending off a player AGAINST Motherwell - wonders will never cease.
Astonishing turnaround in performance level considering what has been served up recent weeks. Controlled the game for the entire 90 mins, never gave them time to settle, pressed hard unlike previous games and played some decent football against a team that had only lost once before. Let's hope this is the level to expect each week, not a flash on the pan.
Match won absolutely fair and square. The Hearts boys, with a couple of exceptions (just as well for Hearts that Craig Gordon was one of them), didn't turn up. I thought that the sending off was debatable, but against that one of the Hearts midfielders was a lucky man to have avoided a yellow on several occasions.
Some folks in the media seemed to think that it's almost unfair to adopt an approach which makes life awkward for your better quality - allegedly - opponents. Rubbish. Anyway, in the last two games against Hearts their goals have come
from an outstanding free kick and a penalty. They've hardly been battering at Liam's front door!
PS I watched MOTD later. Was that Liverpool I saw pressing relentlessly? Even if your team is stacked with talent, you need to get the ba' back ASAP.
Re Craig Gordon ... I really like him. Those 2 saves he made within 4 seconds of each other were superb; the 2nd one being an absolute 'Worldy' and I found it unfathomable how he kept that shot out. However, he should not be confronting the officials at the end of the 1st and 2nd half, then giving it the 'do you know who I am treatment'. His capers at the end of the game were embarrassing - if he wasn't booked for the holier than thou lecture to Gollum .... why not ?!
Hearts and similar teams think the have a divine right to beat teams like ours, who maybe don’t have the same number of quality players as them “TOUGH” we thoroughly merited our win on Saturday against a so called “team” who had lost just once in the league so far this season. They were fortunate to finish with ten players on the pitch as their “streetwise actions” off the ball were a disgrace. Their manager bemoaned our in your face and rough house tactics, he clearly needs to look closer at his own players inadequacy to deal with it.
