VAR's ruining the game, it has its uses but is now taking over from the referee on the pitch. The concept, that's actually in the laws of the game, that the referee is the final arbiter has gone and the game's all the worse for it.
It was supposed to be introduced to correct a decision where the referee has made a clear and obvious error. But now it's stopping a game for four minutes and giving offsides for the width of a bootlace and awarding goals where the referee has called the ball as out and given a goal kick. These are not clear and obvious errors, they're just a human seeing what they see and making a split second decision and, for me at least and no doubt someone will disagree, that's what the game should be about; not some guy sitting miles away scrutinising every decision from multiple angles, including by the way in the case of the Japan goal angles that are there to make other decisions not whether the ball has gone out for a goal kick or not.
Referee, two assistants, VAR, Assistant VAR, second assistant VAR, VAR tea person and the guy that checks the door's shut properly all involved - absolute nonsense.
