Thanks Lloyd for the mention. I check marketplace on a regular basis and one gets a 'feel' for what could be something valuable by the photo and description. Many Dickens stuff is plentiful and would need to be extremely rare for it to pique my interest. There are currently a fair few Dickens collections on there but the bindings and the printers are not of any major value.
The best I managed for a Dickens work was an 1836 first edition containing rare writings of The Tuggs's at Ramsgate with sketches with Octavo. pages - it was in its original dark green diced cloth and the titles ran along the spine in gilt. It included 14 plates by Hablot K. Browne which is quite rare in itself. Some of the hinges had split with some spotting and browning to some page edges. I discovered this book at a car boot sale and I advertised as in very good condition. A book seller from London came to see me and paid £800 for it 5 years ago. Mind ya I did have it for sale for four years.
You an antiques dealer then Phil? I hope we don't meet or you might keep me.😉
