Pundits were discussing who was the best midfielder in the championship at that time Sawyers or Philips of Leeds.
Then just before lockdown Sawyers performances began to decline. The confident capable maestro pulling the strings became a sweating, lacklustre, fowling, unenthusiastic liability in the team. When Bilic made remarks about the mentality of the team, and he has on numerous occasions I’m sure he has Sawyers in mind.
We never know what goes on behind closed doors, stuff happens to all of us and our work often suffers. We often expect players to produce their maximum every game and that is unrealistic, I’m as guilty as anyone. But honestly such a drop in performance needs investigating and in the meantime he place should be given to another. Sam field on the bench perhaps.
