Back in the 80s when pressure and ignorance from the Red Top press over Aids set back Gay rights decades and led to Thatcher passing Section 28 I could see the need to demonstrate by the LGBT community but all the Gay Pride stuff over recent years has irked me as I thought we were past this. Clearly, in some sectors particularly, we are not and football is one of them. Hats off to the lad then.
Sadly, what has come out of the BLM movement too is that racism (and this Inc colourism) is also an ongoing issue in this country. Again, I didn't think it was anyway near as bad as it is until I listened to some of the stories people told and -again- football is a sector where the Kick it out campaign still has its place.
Don't get me wrong, I dislike the whole rainbow laces / taking the knee/ wokieness stuff too but I recognise that there is still racism/ ***ism and homophobia in the game and still more to do to tackle these prejudices there and in society.
