Toney bet on 13 Brentford matches (a lot when he was on loan admittedly - but he would still have had inside knowledge)
Tonali was only playing in 11 matches in the 2 month period his charge is based on before he got the Italian FA ban.
So IF true, then there still precedent
The EFA are going to treat it as one continuous offense and his charges will be treated as such.
Their punishment / penalty will run concurrently with his present ban, which means he won't have any extra time out of the game.
When his current ban is up he'll be back in action as scheduled.
So let's not vilify a lad who's already been punished and dealing with his addition like a man, owned up, getting help and redoubled his efforts to repay the club & manager for their support.
I was kinda doing that Raga 🤣
Tonali betting while here, for me at least, shows he had no idea he was being investigated while in Italy… if he’d known he would have stopped.
As I said originally, cop to it, today, assuming he knows what he actually bet so we can be confident it is all true… cooperate to the fullest extent possible (player and club - unlike Toney and Brentford who delayed by refuting charges till their Prem safety was mostly assured and they knew the ban would include the summer and Toney who the investigation said gave obviously false info)… and the very worst we can expect (and appeal using as precedent if not) is the ~1 day/offence that Toney got.
Worst case… Tonali might not be able to train with the first team for a month but be able to train long before pre season starts and be ready and fit as possible when he is allowed to play.
Yes, exactly Nufcian. Worst we could expect is that he is suspended from training like Toney. However, as you point out Sandro has 100% cooperated & admitted his wrong doing.
At least he's had the past few months to train and embed in the team which has been great for all parties. Furthermore, his English is excellent now so once he's back on the grass he'll be a totally different animal!
Can't wait to see it.
It does disappoint me some what to see some fans trashing the fella on Twitter etc. Do we want the best for our club or do we want to make villains of those who pull on the famous black and white?
People need to find more productive things to do with their hands rather than just bitch and moan whilst beached on their sofas.
What I would say is that, when he comes back, I think he deserves a clean slate.
