Thread: The Old Guard

    The Old Guard

Wonder whether it is time for the club and Farke to actively transition from the older players who got us to the prem but whose time will be coming to an end with us over the next couple of seasons and really try to push and develop the younger players.

Cooper, Ayling and Bamford all to some degree look as if they are waning or are just not as good as other players ahead of them. They might be as good as some of the youngsters but as they don’t have the advantage of potential maybe there is an argument for not having all three on the bench together so others can be brought through before we reach (that seems to be the aim) the prem where it will be harder.

Pleased gray is getting time and also Shacks (love his attitude) but Joffy, Joseph, Poveda and Cresswell all need game time to improve before you even add in other younger players into the mix.

As such, not only are the older players not good enough compared to those ahead of the. But are blocking the route for the youngsters.

We look so much weaker with cooper at the back (the others then seem less confident) and Ayling is increasingly error prone.

Bamford for all his runs and effort doesn’t do what he is paid to do - score.

    Couldn’t agree more.

No disrespect intended but in almost every profession it’s time to step aside and let the next generation move up

Agreed , we have depth in our squad but its not all quality , time a few moved on...especially Cooper/Bamford/Ayling.

Sad but true (about some moving on, not depth in the squad comment!).

Shame, as Bamford showed some iwf his "non-striker" qualities today, just not enough when we have other options.

    Fair enough.

I’ve been running the PL competition (originally conceived by MightyLeeds) for 20-odd years now.

So, which of you numpties is taking over?

I hope so, he’s only six and a half (I’ve had him for five of them)!
