Got a kettle last week from a well known supermarket. Lovely polished metal red number.
Thing is, everything tastes like TCP, it's disgusting.
Anyway, took it back and swapped it for same one & guess what, same thing.
I've tried Bicarb of Soda, even tried boiling milk in the 1st one (not to be advised!)
Please - has anyone got any tips for getting rid of the chemical taste, I only want a good cuppa for goodness sake!

sorry link broke hang on.

Is it Chinese made Exeter? Serious question!
Reason I ask is that a few years ago a well known electrical retailer imported a load of fridges under their own brand and we (service engineers) had multiple call outs to the chemical smell they gave off!
Nothing you can do once the smell has permeated the 'metal'. Take it back, choose a different brand, stop trying to save a few quid.
You sure it's not just Southern water tho?![]()
Some new kettles react with the chlorine in your water, don't know if it's permanent. Try bottled water too see if there's any difference
Jeez Exeter. you can't even make a cuppa tea now.
I'll take my computer elsewhere thanks.

Yes the damn thing is Chinese & it seems to taste ok when you put fresh water in there out the tap, but if water has been standing in there - yuk
Agreed, it sounds like the levels of chlorine in the supply is reacting with the metal in the kettle.Originally Posted by millertop
This is also sometimes quite common when it comes from the tap and smells a little like bleach. In that case it is unbelievably a reaction with the phenol in hoses.
In the case of the TCP kettle, there are two solutions.
1) boil it a load of times and the taste will eventually fade... Not a perfect solution and can prove expensive by the time you have boiled umpteen times only to throw away.
2) return the kettle and swap for a plastic one ! Job done.
Or as a last result. Buy an incredibly long hose and use good old Yorkshire water![]()
^^ Yorkshire water
yeah think you might be right about the chlorine, brew this morning from an empty kettle was cracking
thanks for the help
