    OT Happy St George's Day

In this strange modern culture when so many English people seem to enjoy dressing up in green hats and supping guinness for Paddy's day, I thought I'd wish everyone a Happy St George's Day.

Proud to be English and Proud to be a Miller.

    Good health to all.

Dean, I am a very proud Englishman, Yorkshireman and Brit but I really can't subscribe to this St Georges day nonsense.
As a symbol of being english it really is poor. St George is an amalgam of at least 2 people from the third century none of whom were actually called George and none of whom had ever heard of England never mind stepped foot on its soil.
To celebrate England and being english we should at least celebrate people who were english. Shakespeare/Churchill/Brunel/Lennon even Eddie the Eagle. St George is also celebrated in dozens of other countries including Georgia(obviously), Syria, Portugal, Palestine, Syria, Russia, Iraq, Israel, Serbia, Ethiopia and th

    Good health to all.

    Same to you Deano

Sat in weatherspoons in Buxton and you wouldn't realise it was our countries patron saints day today,
apart from an ale on called 'george and flagon'

Yet come in on 17th march and it's a different story. Though some pribably think it's national Guinness day and I suppose it is them that's done the most to promote that as a celebration day.

Before anybody starts on all the 'st George' facts such ad born in Palestine, never set foot here, shared by loads of other countries etc etc.
My point is the fact remains it is our patron saints day, but it's almost an embarrassment to mention it , unlike such as st pats day.

Probably a sign of the multi cultural times I didn't even realise! My little girl has a parade on Sunday for Rainbows, but couldn't for the life of me think of the reason why - know I know. Cheers for that

My point Magyar is that maybe more people would respond to a national day if it was something they could identify with. I want to celebrate being english but the St George nonsense leaves me cold.
I would fly my flags that I bought before the England U18 game the other night but the G4S steward lowlife wouldnt let me take the sticks in so they are now shoved up his backside.

I've known people being called racist for flying the flag on St George's day
