I think as singing goes, we have an awfully droll track list. Compare what we sing to that post put up a while back of the Notts County fans at NYS. We have nothing unique like that and individual to our club.

I've always been the first to defend the atmosphere at NYS. When it's a big game, it's good. When we play the so called smaller teams, it's very poor.
Badly timed songs, singing out of rhythm (North East corner on one part of a song whilst North West are on another), half of the kop are unwilling to sing. Half of the kop seem unwilling to join in if their group do not start the song! I just think we could be a lot, lot better.
I think the main problem is most of ours songs are difficult to sing (and painfully fast) so the people who don't want to stand up and sing the full game (fair enough) can't easily join in.
As I've mentioned before the 'come on you reds chant' is really loud because its easy to sing and nice and slow! All three sides sing this because it's easy! Why we don't sing this as the players are about to kick off is beyond me. It should also be sung on every corner kick!
We went through a small (two game) stage of singing the 'Steve Evans red army' chant and clap that

It always is mate (round us) but like you say, this old debate will always come up. Like the thread you put up the other week.Originally Posted by mattyrufc

It's called being Mardy![]()
Around where I sit in west stand near to home fans ,we joined in a few songs but it wasn't long before north stopped.
I've also noticed that a group start a song then another group start a different song in stead of joining the one that's already being sung (whats that about then?)
Same with the person who hoots the horn, we can all shout Rotherham but choose to ignore it.
Someone tries something different here though and people either don't join in or just call it crap.Originally Posted by ExeterMiller
At least most seem to be singing the song for Tavernier though (Living on a prayer).
When I was younger we used to squeeze into the back of the Tivoli in the early 90s and learn the songs off the older lads, the lack of 'kop' style stands across football these days has a lot to do with the flat atmosphere in my view to encourage young 'uns to really get behind the side, it's not just us as a club.
Maybe the club should employ a songwriter like Man Utd.![]()

Spot on with this one mate, i dont mind who starts the songs off and always join in whether its at home or away, shame so many people want to sit in areas where we try to generate an atmosphere and choose to sit on there hands all game with there lips glued together :-) UTM

I think all the North stand should stay back after the game and have a few singing lessons. So no sneaking out early Dewsbury Miller!
We can do something about it though, when we sing together, as one, its really loud! The problem is people not being arsed and as said above, sitting in the kop, taking up a seat, but not being willing to sing.
Why don't the club do what they did at the DVS and have microphones in the kop to pipe the noise through the PA system in the East and West stand. I sit in W4 and it is sometimes difficult to hear what is being chanted (but that may be my hearing - getting old). I do try to get the chants going but it's me about three others I'm afraid.
