Thread: Rams skipper 2014

    Rams skipper 2014

Who woudld be the best player for the role next season. For arguments sake lets assume the squad that begins the season is the same as the one that finished last season. Keogh gives me the shakes at times, personally he doesnt fill me with enough confidence and i want him to up his game. Bucko would love it but want him to concentrate on maintaining the performances he did throughout the season. Fullbacks no..Bryson not really got the presence..Martin not really, to prone to winding up the opposition and you have to be a really special player to captain form the front. Grant...possibly but seems to quiet for me..Hughes Hendrick cant see it. Too young and dont yet have the gravitas..Ward..dont be daft..Personally i would look for a leader on the pitch who leads by example, is a solid performer, cosnsistent powerful and controls play...doesnt have to be a shouter, doesnt have to be an elder player...only one man for me...Georgie Thorne...made for him...

is that just a clever way of creating another thorne thread? ;-D

realistically if mac's plan are to have Keogh as a starter then there's pretty much no chance of changing him being captain. I agree though, he doesn't come across to me as a strong leader like bucko does. then again there is an argument that if it's not broken don't fix it.

if Keogh weren't to start then bucko would be the only person in the squad capable imo. I don't think he'd need to do anything much different than he does already. he seems to be a leader on the pitch but he may just play a more active role.

Yh it'll stay with Keogh but certainly thorne looks eventual captain material from what we have seen on the pitch. Some may argue his current position re west brom are not particularly laudable actions however.

It is not just on the pitch it is also off the pitch work and by all accounts, Keogh is very good at this and should be rightly kept captain.

Apparently on a rumour site it says that Villa, Palace and Burnley are interested in buying Keogh - so would you keep Keogh or sell?

I just don't see keogh as a premiership player. I like him but he doesn't seem to have improved under Mac in my view whereas so many of the others have.

I agree that if you plan to keep Keogh in the squad that he must remain captain.

Otherwise, I think Martin brings a lot of leadership to the side.

His fearless appetite for the game and he is very vocal too.

By football standards he's an articulate boy and would represent the side very well. If anything it may improve his game.

I've never been a fan of forwards being the captain on the pitch. It always seems to work better from defence or midfield.

But maybe thats just because its customary, what we're used to?

Made me think though. Would the position a captain plays in be more effective depending on the style of play from the team? For example, would a forward as captain be more effective in an attack minded team than in a more defensive one? Likewise, would a forward as captain be better than a defender in a more attacking side?

Or is it down solely to personality and the position is irrelevant?

Can you think of any successful inspirational captains who led from the front . Shearer perhaps. Although not when at Blackburn as I think that was sherwood. Mara dona?
