    World Cup Opener

I enjoyed the WC opener. Talented footballers on show with a high intensity to the game and Croatia giving it "a right good go". Huge, passionate crowd with an atmosphere akin to FP on a good day. Throw in a few Brazzer lovelies and you are in football heaven.

Refereeing controversy too with Scumpthunton's very own Dejan "Let me go to Liverpool!" Lovren giving away a dodgy pen. Neymar got lucky too - if he was English he would have gone.

Not a vuvuzela in sight. Which was a shame because I had been polishing mine all week. Apparently the Brazilian version, the caxirola (pronounced cashy rolla), has been banned so we only have cheering and singing. Bliss.

Early days but it looks promising for the tournament.

I would have enjoyed it,had the community aerial not decided to pixellate my screen for the whole evening.

Why oh why did I choose to cancel Virgin BEFORE the WC.

I thought the Opening Ceremony was horrendous, the game average and the refereeing poor. Add to that I was the only one in my W/C competition to score zero points, it was not an auspicious start.
Oh, and I don't think ITV are very good at football coverage.

    re: World Cup Opener

I turned on for 7 o'clock and got up at 5 past 7 and sat in the garden with a glass of cider and a newspaper and left Mrs SD to turn over and watch Hollyoaks. Did watch the game when it eventually started, it was ok, I thought Croatia were pretty unlucky. Never a penalty although you could see why it was given, and their goalie didn't cover himself in glory, then again neither did Julio Cesar.
Better than a dull 0-0 though

I actually thought it was an awful game.

Terrible ref, bad decisions, Brazilian defence looks very shaky too.

    Croatia were very unlucky.

    What Andy said.
After what we've all read about corruption etc do we believe that those were genuine mistakes from the Ref?? The 3 major decisions he had to make in the game & he got them all wrong in favour of the home team
Thought Croatia looked decent & Oscar, Neymar & two of their defenders for Brazil looked a class above. But the rest??

What Andy said too. On that performance Brazil will need refs like that throughout the tournament to win games. Surely they can't stick with both Fred and Hulk up front. Stop Neymar and there's not much other threat.

This Brazilian team is a couple of classes below the many good ones we have seen in the past.

    You bunch of miserable gits

Compare it to the usual opening game toss*******s that was OK. Or maybe I saw Pompey too many times last season and my expectations are low.

    It'll get better.

Well maybe that did a touch to liven things up. How many had Spain down to lose?

van Persie goal best header ever in the WC finals?
