At a special ceremony being held at Rotherham Town Hall, the Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr John Foden, will present Tony with an illuminated address bearing the Coat of Arms commemorating his enrolment. He will also receive a pendant and will be asked to sign the Roll of Honorary Freemen.

There are only 15 men who have been bestowed the honour and there's a link between TS and George Gummer, who was made a Freeman of Rotherham in 1927.
Both prominent businessmen involved in manufacturing in the town. Stewart self-made with his world-leading ASD Lighting firm and Gummer taking on his family's foundry business supplying fine quality bath and WC fittings for hospitals, ships and hotels including the Ritz and the Strand in London.
Both bitten by the football bug. Stewart taking it on himself to save The Millers after they went into administration for the second time whilst Gummer was a founder and first President of the Midland Counties League. He was also in charge of Rotherham Town when they were elected to the Football League in 1893.
Both left there mark on the town. Stewart with the New York Stadium (and potential development to come) and Gummer, as Mayor and Chair of the "Improvement and Property" Committee, presided over road-widening schemes, slum clearances, new
