Well I never knew that either...

I never knew that PL Officials are required to arrive at and leave the stadium after their match as a team. Mark Clattenburg didn't conform to that protocol as he rushed off from the Hawthorns Saturday to see an Ed Sheeran concert. His slap on the wrist is to miss out on a PL game this weekend.

    Appro pro Lino's flags.

Someone in a parallel universe pointed out that it is the senior Lino that has the chequered flag.

    I never knew that either.

Why doesn't the 4th official warm up.
How much does it cost the club for said 4th official
Is the warm up procedeure for the 3 officials choreographed by the FA

To pay for 4 officials plus their TE's and sometimes an overnight hotel for the Ref, costs a lot of dosh for clubs. In my day the red flag was carried by the senior linesman (the one who took over in event of an injury to the appointed Ref). The yellow flag was carried by the junior linesman. No 4th officials in those days of course, clubs used to make an announcement for a qualified referee to come forward if any official was injured.

Including the famous occasion at Highbury when Jimmy Hill took over from an injured linesman.

(I was never sure he was qualified)

    Well remembered Geoff...

One of Highbury's more light-hearted football moments took place in 1972.

Arsenal were hosting Liverpool on September 16, when linesman Dennis Drewitt pulled a muscle and was unable to continue.

FA rules state that the match could not be completed without a referee and two linesmen, so the game was in danger of being abandoned.

The matchday announcer put a message over the loudspeaker asking if anyone was a qualified referee and would volunteer to run the line. Out of the crowd came none other than TV pundit Jimmy Hill!

Jimmy was a qualified referee and had been at Highbury that day as a spectator. He quickly donned a tracksuit and stepped in for the injured Mr Drewitt.

The match ended in a 0-0 draw, but will forever be remembered for the antics of Jimmy Hill.

It's a funny old game Geoff
