WANDERERS have been plunged into a striker crisis after losing two key players to injury.
Joe Mason could be missing for up to three months with a torn hamstring while Max Clayton was stretchered off the pitch in Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Ipswich Town with what is feared could be knee ligament damage.
Youngster Clayton, who played in a central striker role for the first time against the Tractor Boys, will undergo a scan today to determine the extent of the damage but will certainly be ruled out of Friday’s trip to Millwall.
With Craig Davies still fighting back from a hamstring strain of his own, Neil Lennon admits he is worried at the lack of attacking players he has at his disposal.
“I have got two centre-forwards out at the moment so it’s a real concern to me,” he told The Bolton News.
“I’ve got my fingers crossed the scan comes back with positive results for Max. He felt his knee twist, we hope it isn’t too bad.

Neil Lennon has done a marvellous job in the first two months of his tenure at the Wanderers.
He has got the absolute maximum out of a squad that in my opinion has a marked lack of quality and Lennon knows this. He will be wanting to hit the ground running in January, in an attempt to strengthen his squad with quality.
It would appear that players are willing to run through brick walls for him, which is more than be said of the previous clown.
This is going to be a very important next few weeks because we are not yet totally of the mire.
Heskey might be worth signing on a short term deal, because we don't really know if Lennon is going to have any funds in January.
The Thai's seem to be all mouth and I wouldn't bank on them giving Lennon funds. Eddie has obviously had enough and he's highly unlikely to invest any money now.
I'd imagine the only way Lennon is going to receive any funds, is by selling, so Bogdan, Spearing and maybe Chungy are all available, but is there anybody interested in signing them?
There's no interest from any clubs in those players gary.Originally Posted by garyp1803
We always seem to be able to shift our keepers on so I can see Bogdan's going.
Chungy worries me in that he's playing well at the moment but not necessarily well enough to get a good price for him. Can't see Spearing attracting any decent bids at the moment - out of them team and out of form
we do need some mid fielders and strikers desperately
If Heskey can get himself fit again, there are players I'd less rather have in the squad.
